It is good to see you having a go at making covers
My first bit of advice, is to make sure you use a background image or texture that doesn't wash out the text on the back. You could try turning down the opacity, so the legal text is legible. Also, make sure when you resize images that you constrain the proportions. The front images are currently squashed.

Not only that, but maybe you should look at some of the covers in our gallery. A standard template is a great tool for a beginner and makes it a bit easier when it comes to placing things correctly in a cover.

Exactly what I was going to say.
Looking at someone else’s work can really help you get ideas or even follow a layout to help structure the cover properly.

Thanks for the pointers, I'm trying to learn on the fly and not very patient. I'll take the time to slow down and examine some other's work to help further my own learning. Not only trying to learn design elements, but have zero experience with Photoshop (or GIMP which is what I am actually using) so the learning curve is severe.
