I have just put the finishing touches on our latest site enhancement - basically a response to the question "how can we get more people to comment in the gallery". I will be releasing it this evening around midnight server time (GMT -5), and will post a full announcement complete with screen shots a few hours before that. Bazzah and I are both VERY VERY excited about this one.

After a member downloads an image in the gallery, the index page will have a new comment box that overlays the preview image:

(note: this box will not display for items you uploaded, or for items you already commented on)
This will remind members that we want their feedback - on each and every download - but at the same time, does not interfere with navigation of the site, or require them to close a "popup" window, if they still choose not to comment.
The download and comment counter start as of August 15. Only one comment/download per image is counted, and commenting/downloading your own uploads are not counted.
A member's comment level is calculated by the ratio of comments to downloads - according to this chart:
Shy: 0-5%
Evasive: 5-10% (3 comment minimum)
Courteous: 10-30% (10 comment minimum)
Articulate: 30-65% (25 comment minimum)
Loquacious: 65-100% (100 comment minimum)
(edited for new titles)
In addition, each comment will show the level of the member:

The title for each icon can be viewed by hovering your mouse over the icon.

FYI - I just found out the server time is GMT -6 - so it will still be another hour and 5 minutes before those comments you are making will count.

Great idea, guys! At the moment, I've been a pretty shy commenter, but I'll definitely be leaving more praise when I'm admiring others work in the gallery. Which is what I hope more users will be doing.
I'm sure I'm not the only designer who gets a little frustrated when you work really hard on something, 100+ people download it, and less than 5 bother to leave a comment.

Glad you like it guys.... it is something that has always bothered all of us. My initial idea behind this was to make an easy to use system to leave comments, without being annoying. I think we have come up with the perfect solution, but only time will tell. It would be good to hear from you guys in a few weeks, to hear if you think it has made a difference to the amount of comments your receive.
