Webp File Format

Version: 1.0.0
Category: Plugins

Description:
This Plugin allows Photoshop to open and save WebP Files includes versions for Win32 Win64 & Mac.
WebP is a still image format developed by Google. It features good lossless and lossy compression, usually beating both JPEG and PNG in size/quality comparisons. It is based on the VP8 video codec, which Google acquired and released as open source.

Great share! Was looking into this a few months ago and was surprised that Photoshop couldn’t natively save webp format.

The only downside is it’s not supported in safari but they’re experimenting with it, it’s also not supported by Internet Explorer which is to be expected but some people surprisingly still use it!!

I have encountered some jpg and png's recently that had been encoded using this but still had normal extensions.

PS chokes on them but does not tell you why.

This kind of solves it, you have to change the extension to webp, then Photoshop will open them but if you leave it jpg or png then Photoshop will still choke even with the plugin installed.

They display normally with either extension but most files do that on the web.

Like on a web page you can name all your png's to jpg and they will still work correctly with transparency or gif's to png.

Photoshop however will not like them having the wrong extension but web browsers don't care.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
