Hey all.

I just bought myself the Epson RX580 printer which prints on discs. This is my first disc printer, so I have to ask about your favorite media types for printable.

I will only burn with Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R discs. Supermediastore offers silver injet printables in TY + 8X and white inkjet printables.

I was wondering, for those of you who print discs, do you prefer the white or silver? My concern is that the white looks pretty bad if I am doing a simple text print, and I have always used the shiny silver laquer with a sharpie (I know, I know )and I like the look of the silver better. However, I am concerned that the silver printable will wash out the color of the image compared to a, likely more vibrant, white printable.

Any input on the matter? Thanks in advance!

little experience of silver ,tried a few and didnt like them,i found that they only work well if you have a lot of light colours on your disc.might be worth buying some locally and trying them out

I don't think I'll waste the money, unless someone else has had differant experiances they can recount for me. What you are saying pretty much confirms my initial thought, so white it will be unless I hear any word in defense of the silvers...

these r only 1s i use make sure u get grade A in these tho
i can get em from local dealer for 16.6 each if i buy large bulk

they r a cross between white and silver sort of pearlescent effect give great holographic touch !!

I buy mainly fullface printables, though bought 50 silver riteks about 8 months ago to try and still got over half of them left,
A Couple of them looked fine but mostly i didn't like the effect, so i'm sticking to the white ones

I agree anything I've printed that was darker didn't print that good but anything that was white prints as silver & looked great but most disc labels have dark colours on them, so it's personal choice really...

For good color i'd sue white discs. If you were doing text or black and white silver would probably look alright. Biggest problems I've heard is that colors look to dark or dull on silver.

I have thought about getting a spindle of 50 of the silver for text prints, and 100 of the white for complete labels... This will eliminate the issue with not liking the white face for simple texts, because IMO they don't look too good blank. Unfortunately the Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R do not come in spindles of 50 white printables, only 100 or 200. I usually buy them in lots of 100. I know there are alot of times I just don't feel like making a complete label, and certain films just aren't worth the time or ink IMO. I burn several a week, and I just don't have the time, or inclination to do a label for every one.

You could use Verbatim fullface white printables which are jsut as good as TY and come in 50pks. I've used about 100 or so and they look great.

I know some people who swear by Verbs. Do you use them? If so, do you have a verification scan of an 8X DVD+R? If you do, can you fill me in on the compression method too? I use CCE-SP (which I use with DVD-Rebuilder Pro), but I also have ProCoder, NERO, HC , and all the typical quick compression programs too. I'd be interested in a comparison between them and my TYs.

I found the Verbs for $23.59 for 50, or $45 for 100. Comparably the TYs are $47.95 for 100.
