Should Bittorrent98 be promoted to contributor?

I've been a little confused about his work. First he said his Wolverine came in a slip cover, hence the missing bar code; then as kernie proved him otherwise, the back was suddenly custom work, no slip case...

I think his work is good enough for Contributor status, but I think I'd like to see him find his way around the terms we use first. Very confusing to see a 'scan' suddenly be all custom...

I'll hold off my vote until I see what the Council of Elders say.

I share the same concerns as JR regarding his uploads. Makes me wonder if he's truly making these himself or snatching them from somewhere else and uploading here to gain contributor access. Or, it could be as innocent as not understanding the terminology and what classifies as a "custom" or "scan."

I'm voting "Yes" for contributor access, as I have no official proof to validate my concerns. However, I would recommend keeping an eye on what he's uploading and possibly downloading once the lad does have access to our galleries. :D :D

Agreed. Some of his direct scans look pretty good. Some of his re-builds are very sharp but take liberties that make them substantially different from the original cover. It's hard to accurately judge his skills and aim.

I'm probably overly doubtful because his name is "Bittorrent." That's an ugly enough cloud hanging over the hobby of cover design, the idea of actively celebrating it troubles me.

If his sole aim for creating covers is to slap something on a bootleg, then I'm in no hurry to cheer on a promotion.

(I didn't vote "No." If someone knows him and thinks he's genuinely interested in participating in this community and learning, all the better. )

Excellent point, Bunny Dojo... I felt his username was suspect as well, but you are much better than I am at turning thoughts into words. :D :D :D

I understand what you are saying, but it would be unfair to say no on some presumptions.

I too have reservations as the username Implies issues.....I think a private discussion may be the order.

So, you want Bazz to pm him, asking what?

I too think that his username reeks of sumthing we really don't want associated with HiRes (especially seeing what happened to DVD covers Fuzion).

There's something about him that makes me a little wary. His lying about his Wolverine cover, really bugs me. He must've known beforehand what was scan and what he did himself; so why lie about the cover coming in a slip case... Unless...???

As to his skills, can we ask him to fix anything on the 'scans' to let us find out more of his capabilities?

Can he use a different user name.. would that be asking too much? Most of his 'scans' seem to have some part or other replaced.. besides different artwork/layout his spines are a dead give away. My first thought as i'm sure everyone else's was - is i have never seen such clean scans - they are too clean!

Anyway, i have no probs with him contributing his rebuilt scans if they are his work and labelled as rebuilds.. and different user name would serve our community better considering the times we live in.
