Are there any free trial versions of PS plug-ins? If so how do they work and how long do that last?

Not sure. But I'd go to Downloads.com (CNET) and do a search.

I'm not near my PC at the moment, but when I install plugins where will I find them in PS? If I install a set, will they all be in the same place or will they be scattered about? Say like in filters/blur/noise etc?

most plugins are listed under their own name and not buried underneath. I know alien skin has some free trials for xenofex 2, and some others.

the majority of plugins are filters so once installed and you need to use them just click on the filter button and in the dropdown list you will see whatever filters, (plugins) you have installed. some plugins will create their own button on the task bar but very few.....
