Continuing the story from my WIP for
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, here's a design WIP for my favorite movie,
To Have and Have Not.
As always seems to be the case when I'm designing something for a movie I really like or for myself, I'm stumped.
Unlike Sierra Madre, I couldn't find a great "defining" image for this one, so I'm trying to build some compositions. I'm not sure if either of these is a very early beginning or just a false start, but, pathetically

, they're the best of what I have so far. Any thoughts on which might be a better direction?
I'll probably pursue both a little further, but a nudge one way or another couldn't hurt.

If nothing else, a little public humiliation to knock me down a notch is always a good thing.

I agree. Stick with the second version and call the front done! That is a nice front!
I like the first Bogie/Bacall image, but I'm not sure about the TT font..Regardless, I'm sure you will make it amazing..you always do!
Just a thought..maybe not even a good one..but what about a front design like this-
http://www.doctormacro.com/Images/Posters/...ve%20Not_12.jpg but using actual images of Bogie and Bacall. I'm pretty sure I've seen that photo of Bacall on DoctorMacro.

I prefer the first Tim but it wouldn't hurt to try Felipe's suggestion of swapping backgrounds?

The second layout looks very promising and I'm interested to see more coloring.
Keep it up Tim

I prefer the second one, but have one suggestion, it appears that the boat is on an angle in the water, but the BOAT text on the boat is straight, and that doesn't make much sense... I think the text should at least be at the same angle, then it would look more real!
... Did I sound serious??? lol!
i actually like the ideas going in the first one best, but it's hard to tell really until more is done!

I might be in the minority here, but I like the first one's imagery and typography.
Never seen the film, but if it's more of a romance, I think the first one's imagery indicates that much better. The second one looks more like it's a rousing seafaring adventure film!
Oh.. and the boat looks fake...
