I saw there was nothing for this in our gallery and decided to mess around with the elements for one of my favorite new shows of last season: "Community." Definitely a show that found it's footing as it went through season 1, and let's be honest... Gillian Jacobs and Alison Brie are two great reasons to watch.

Anyway, not too far along yet (still have to add Chevy Chase and Yvette Brown), but any comments so far?

SO GLAD TO SEE YOU MAKING A NON-COMIC COVER!!!!!!

Looks good so far mate, you should remove the Strokes from the characters the keyart can hold up fine without it. I'm looking forward to see how you incorporate the last two characters and of course... Chang!!

Thanks for the suggestions, nike! Not sure if Chang has a place on the front cover, he'll throw off the balance of 3 people on either side of McHale.

Anyone else feel that I should lose the stroke around the characters? I was trying to go for a "paper-cutout" look with them, but I guess it's not really reading that way...

I love the show, like the cover so far, and definitely see where you're going with the strokes. :) I'd say they're worth keeping for now. :) The only idea that comes to mind is to go for a desk texture at the bottom instead of the blue one you have, just to bring you that much closer to the opening credits' style.

And maybe try increasing the color saturation a bit on the whole thing and increasing the white levels on the piece of paper at the top? I think if it were a little more bright and colorful, that would go a long way. :) Right now it's a little too cloudy with a little too much gray in the color tones.

But yeah, I definitely like the idea and think you're well on your way to a nice cover. :)

And how about last night's episode?

:D

Great show. So glad you're making a cover for it.

I agree with BD about the desk texture. You should give that a go.

I like the idea of the torn paper boarder around each character. How about an uneven cut to the boarders around the characters instead of the even stroke that it is now. Given how you have them arranged have you considered having them pop out of the center of the folded paper game that the opening credits are based around?

Thanks for chiming in, BD, donger, and hiv!! Your comments have really helped this cover along (I think folks tend to ignore giving advice to the MD's, but we need help just like everyone else! :D :D :D ).

So, I made the strokes seem more like a ragged cutout, replaced the blue banner thing with the desk texture, added the paper fortune teller from an HD grab of the opening credits, and replaced the TT with the show logo from the titles (thanks for suggesting that, donger!). I also punched up the saturation (didn't realize how desaturated and cloudy the first post was... thanks for pointing it out, BD!). Oh, and "The Complete First Season" text is my actual handwriting. I also wrote out ones for season 2 through 7 (crosses fingers the show goes on for that long)!

Still need to add Pierce and Shirley, but haven't felt like cutting out/masking at the moment...

Below is my 1st post (on the left) with the revisions (on the right) to show how much your suggestions have helped! Thanks again, I really appreciate getting constructive support from my fellow designers! :D :D :D

Oh, and BD... last night's episode was hilarious, I love Britta and Annie...

Anyway, original post and revisions... what do you think???

I think people are just waiting to respond until they can figure out how to parlay this from you making a cover for one TV show's first season to you making covers for every season of every TV show currently available on DVD. ;)

Really impressive work! It looks like you're on your way toward the ultimate fan cover for this show with all of the details. :)

The only thing I'd say if you're looking for more thoughts is, how would it look if you removed the extra flap of Gillian Jacob's vest? Since it starts and ends behind Joel McHale it looks a little odd. (Well, not really odd, but... unnecessary?). Then again, that's probably something that can wait until much later, in case you end up shifting or rotating anyone.

Excellent. :)

Thanks, BD!! I've definitely become a big fan of the show (even though I struggle to convince friends that it's worth watching). I stuck with it for it's rocky first season start because I had met Joel McHale a few months earlier and he was a really cool, down-to-earth guy. I really wanted the show pull through the rough patch and get good (thankfully, it rewarded me for my loyalty with the awesome Paintball episode and many others).

Thanks for pointing that out, hadn't really noticed it because I was working on placement. Like you said, it may fix itself if I have to shift people around, but I'll see what it looks like without it once everyone's in their correct spot.

Thanks again for the comments!! :D :D :D

I like it, looks oddly like the cover of the whole nine yards :) The show is great, I like the second version of the cover.
