Help please with layers

Hi guys i really need some help i am trying to learn how to use layers for a logo i am making for a friend but when i try to copy the layer with the text in i can't change the text any ideas what i am doing wrong??

Best guess: the layer that contains the text is not a true "text layer".

Is there a symbol like the T in this image in your layer pallet ?

If not, you have converted the text layer and you can't edit the text anymore.
If there is double click it and you should be able to edit your text.

I was just being stupid or new to PS.
Another question i want to use Illustrator to make the text 3d but how do i get the text back into PS so i can add the layers & other stuff??

If i'm correct you should be able to open the AI file directly into photoshop.
and you should have the 3d text with a transparent background, you won't be able to edit that 3d text,
but you can add new layers and stuff

Maybe you can even drag and drop the 3d logo from Illustrator to Photoshop,
just grab it and drag it onto the taskbar icon of photoshop and wait for photoshop to popup and drag it into a document.
Haven't installed Illustrator ATM so can't test it for ya.

Here's what i have done so far i just need something to finish it off any ideas??

I did think about having it mounted on a shield or maybe the rip effect from the wanted TT but i don't know how to do either if someone could help??
