It seems to me, a lot of people are making statements, without actualy reading the original post. I also don't think people realise how much it costs to run a site such as this.
At the end of the day, it is a choice. We all have the choice in everything we do. Nobody is forcing you to do anything you don't want to do. Furthermore, as explained previously, contributors do not need to make any payments.
Thank you for your post though. It is good to hear comments from both sides.

Bazzah thank you for the response. I have gone back to re-read the first post to see what I missed.
Please see this from the prespective of a first time visitor (basically myself). I am not yet integrated into what could possibly be a friendly community. I can (and have) uploaded a few covers already and they have been approved but cannot honestly say this will be on a regular basis. What do you consider a regular basis anyway ?. Your first post coupled with the later post indicating that regulars will inform if they think a cover uploaded has been taken from elsewhere. Also mentioned regularly throughout the thread is members saying leechers this and leechers that. Can you not see that already puts your site in a negative view.

I wanted clarification on how many scans would consider myself a contributor. I have uploaded 2 so far which have been approved and have downloaded nothing from yourselves, and yet the above two posters seem to find it funny that I have an opinion that differs from 'it aint much money so pay it'

I may seem like a jerk but its just frustrating to read the same complaints over and over and over when the staff clearly stated their rationale in numerous posts. If you wish to contribute, they will take care of you, they are good folks. You'll get a better response of you handle your affairs through pm and not air it out in public.

I am not surprised to see that this site will be going to a paid subscription based site. The quiality of work is excellent and I understand fully that bandwidth and server time costs money.
As one who has enjoyed the hard work and talents of the artists on this site, I will subscribe to the site to be able to enjoy those efforts in the future. I wish I had a little bit of the talent that the contributors to this site have.
Hopefully this site will stay around longer than the othe subscription sites I have joined in the past.

Well,A pay site now..............hmmmm. Yes the ,....now (your) bandwidth will be smaller. This site-in the begining-was for artists to show off thier work and have it distributed. You cant say as an artist that you didnt check to see if YOUR design of a label or cover was chosen over others. I await to see what happens next. What could happen? First of all,if you chase all your viewers away-will artists start to leave because of a limited audience? maybe not. I am still thinking about becoming a member. Not because I cant afford it,because of principle.Or maybe I should become an artist and have a free subscription.What would make me an artist? how many uploads do I need for a FREE subscription? We will all become artists and nobody will have to pay! If I am an artist who will Download my art?
On the June 25th a message posted for Bazza saying that they were dealing with the idea of make the site a paid subscription membership and was asking for your comments about it.
In the same message he said the next:
Ample warning will be given. That is the reson for making this post now, to get all the members that do fall into the current groups, into those groups, before the changes take effect. An email will also be sent out in advance, when everything has been worked out.

Now on June 29th I received a message from Bazza saying that the site will go to a paid membership.
Yesterday I came to the site again and now the change already took effect, he did it a paid site.
4 days is your idea of ample warning notice?? Last time I checked this site had 7248 members, also I read all post he received back about this idea, yesterday 85 post were posted with the most of them agreeing to make it a paid subscription membership and a few rejecting the idea of this for their own reason, now did you realize that from 7248 members you did not get not even the 1% of them feedback ?
For me, an ample warning notice to the change will looks like this.
To all members of Hirescovers:
Here at hirescovers, we are seeing that the cost of keep this site running is increasing higher that we expected, for that reason we, the staff and myself are dealing with the idea of make this site a paid subscription membership to help us cover the cost of keep this site alive due to the fact of donations we have received are not enough.
We are asking to all members for your feedback about this matter.
So, you are being invited to come and post your thoughts and if you have a better ways or ideas of how we can make that extra money we need, please feel welcome to come and share them with us, we are willing to listen them.
If by the end of July we still do not find a better way to keep this site free to everyone, the site will go to a paid membership beginning August 1st 2006.

That is one of my ideas of ample warning time notice to all members, they deserve at least 30 days in advance of the change not 4 days as you did
Now thinking about the 7248 members this site already have, did you realized that not all of them are adults?. I am sure the half or more of them are teenagers, meaning that they do not have a checking or saving bank account, not a credit card, not even a job and not a pay pal account either.
Your idea of charge 10 euros for the membership, I think not every member can afford it.(yes, I can afford it).
So my point or suggestion is make cost of membership available to everyone, an existing member and new members for come, example: charge 3 euros for just join the site with all services open except arcade, charge 5 if they want make use of the games, I am sure 3 or 5 euros is a sum that everyone teenager or adult can afford easily even without a credit card, they can use postal service to pay for it, plus donations of some members and some extra money you can make with the advertisements of the site you can do it.
Myself, I confess I am guilty of not donate yet to this site, but was on my plans to do it, my main reason of not have donated yet is that I did two donations of 40 dollars each to previous site, hirescovers.com I was a member for about 7 weeks and site went down just 3 days after I made my second donation, so, I was waiting here and see if that does not happen again here before I make my donation. So, if owner of this site (Mr.Bazza) can assure me that won't happens soon, I will gladly make my donation.
Also I read this in one of the post about this topic.

I am sorry Krafty, but I pay $3.14 for a package of cigarrets,(Marlboro) so 10 euros = 12 plus dollars I can buy 4 packages of them.
