That's using nothing but the "Color" blending mode, and suddenly you've added a huge amount of sharpness and information that couldn't have been in the black and white version.

Thanks for all of the encouragement, guys! I'm hoping to come up with a colorizing tutorial one of these days, once I figure out the correct process.It seems like the kind of thing that should take only a few layers, but I tend to pile up 20-40 layers trying to get skin tones right, so I don't think I quite have the hang of it yet.

Here's another one that's been in progress, The Maltese Falcon (from a Nikerun suggestion a long while back

It's pretty simple, so either a wild title treatment or an additional image is probably going to be needed to further spruce things up.
