Thanks, Jontaz!!! :D :D :D

I thought some folks might be interested (if anybody's even interested in these covers) to see how I've put the keyart together. In cases like this, I usually work much bigger than the final size, just so I have some room to move elements around without worrying about them getting cut off the edge of the canvas.

I did something similar for my Jennifer's Body, Transformers, and G.I. Joe covers, and I think it also helps to focus on just making a good piece of keyart, as opposed to worrying how it will work in the context of the final cover.

One other is advantage is it comes in very handy when doing a DVD-to-Blu-ray conversion. I generally just crop the same height as the DVD, but take a little bit more of the width to fill the BD proportions. Saves a lot of time sliding crap around to make it fit the BD dimensions.

Not sure why I gave myself so much room at the top on both of these Community keyarts, but whatever...

I hope this might give others an idea of an alternative workflow than always having to work within the cover template files, which I've sometimes found to be a bit restrictive.

Honk if you find this remotely interesting!

For anyone still paying attention... here's an update on Season Two...

[attachment=14977:communit...view_003.jpg]

I've been going through and swapping out elements with things that are "season two specific," and have replaced most of the ID cards, even changing the Greendale tagline on the IDs from "Our Credits Might Transfer" (from S1) to "Now Offering Minority Enrollment!" for S2, both of which I came up with myself and I think match the irreverent Greendale style.

I'm not sure about Chang on the back, I don't like how his arm covers up most of the other characters (flipping the pic makes it worse). I also can't shrink him because he should kind of match the scale of his S1 image to keep consistency. I'd like to make it so that the back characters change with different guest stars (Betty White, etc.), but would hate to remove Chang from the cover since he's a series regular (but technically not part of the study group, hence why he's not on the front, plus he throws off the front's balance).

Okay... I'm rambling... anybody think anything?? I feel like I've been talking to myself lately... did I do something? Do you all hate me? If that puppy I ran over was yours, I'm sorry... :( :( :(

I think it looks great but chang does cover up Jason Schwartzmana lot. Is there another pic of Jason that's different you could use because it's the same one from your season 1 cover. Maybe look for a pic where's in a different position like you did with chang.

By the way great job on these the detail in the back is amazing i can't even begin to think how hard it was to do those ID cards.

Thanks for commenting, RRJR!!! I'm still working on switching out the characters, I only changed Chang so far. That's actually John Oliver (from The Daily Show), not Jason Schwartzman, and I plan to remove him and put in a S2 guest star, just not sure who yet...

The ID cards weren't that difficult... if you're familiar with Smart Objects, it basically "nests" a Photoshop file inside of another PS file. So I can do all the rotation, perspective, scaling on the cover file, and then open the Smart Object file and view the ID card as it's own separate (un-rotated, un-scaled, un-perspectivized (is that a word?)) PSD and quickly change the name, pic, etc. If you haven't tried them yet, I suggest you play around with them, they can really save time if used properly... :D :D :D

Thanks Nike!!! Anybody care to throw out some suggestions for season 2 memorabilia for the back cover?? Those kind of suggestions were hugely helpful for S1, so maybe some fans of the show can help with some ideas... Thanks!!

It looks great so far, but you might want to cool your jets a little, there's still half a season left. :)

Yeah... I know, but I can get most of it done and wait to add stuff from the second half after the seasons over. Because of how complicated the psd has become, I worry that I'll forget what I did if I take a break from it for too long. It's kind of what happened with my True Blood covers, I went away and then I forgot what to do when it came time to rework the cover for season two.

I guess I'm just trying to get as much done while I'm still in the mood and have a nice groove going...
