I altered the image by tweaking the perspective and using skew to make him appear to be rearing back. I dissected his arm at each joint, adjusted it upward and filled out the arm with more skin as necessary. This definitely changes the composition of the back alot so it is just an idea. If you put a nice effect on the whip it could play off the other characters nicely.
Hmmm... :chin: :chin:
I hadn't considered doing the arm-joint thing to alter how his arms are posed, so that might be part of the solution to adding a whip.![]()
Unfortunately, I think the perspective/skew thing just makes him look like a cardboard cutout that's been turned on an angle, and I'm hesitant to do it because it has a lot of potential to look wrong or awkward.
I like the curve of the whip you came up with, but I'd rather see it go in front of his legs and some of Loki's cape than cover up Abomination. I thought the area is front of his legs and Loki's cape needed something, so maybe I'll go back and try to add a whip. I was also having some troubling replicating the electric-whip effect from the film, so that will take some work...
But thank you very much for putting this together as a reference, it's helped to give me some ideas.![]()
EDIT: Just noticed your edit in which you moved the whip down below... maybe I'll give it a try. But I'm still not 100% sure about it...

Update...
- Per CavemanLawyer's advice, I added Whiplash's whip into the back "villains collage." I actually made the whip from scratch myself, using Illustrator and some PS layer styles, brushes, adjustment layers, and filters. I'm pretty pleased with the end result! Thanks for pushing me to add the whip, Caveman!
- Tried to add a little bit more color to the Whiplash character and attempted to brighten it a little. The image is really difficult to work with, so there's only so much I think I'll be able to do in this instance.

And a detail of the whip...

Looks pretty damned sweet now Andy, the whip fills that space nicely.
I can appreciate the frustration you must have had combining all these elements together into one cover with limited resources, but you have pulled it off as usual.
The detail is one thing a lot of people miss, they just print the covers out and place it on a shelve, without taking a good long look at the effort you put into them.
I'm going to be taking a good long look at this when you release it
Wonderful job and I'll put my vote in now for Cover of the Month, and I'll be even bolder to call it Cover of the Year, I doubt it will be topped

What an incredibly positive addition the whip makes, it adds a another dimension and really caps off the villians I think!
The whole thing is pretty special

I agree with all the comments above. I'll just hold off any of my wips until this is safely uploaded to the gallery! LOL
One minor thing - the back is pretty slick and black, but with color only in the top left corner. How would it look if you added some color to the small images to the right?

Thanks everyone for the kind words... but let's not get ahead of ourselves with COTM and COTY... there are a lot of amazing covers going through WIP's this month... and it's still anyone's game!
@ JR... I'll add a hint of the original color from the headshots, but not too much, because I want them to still tie into the SHIELD tech-stuff.
