I agree with avatar I enjoyed but didn't what the hype was technically it just one bog cartoon since 75%of the movie was CG.
Due Date 7/10- had a couple of laughs but for the most part pretty dull.
Let Me In 3/10 - this movie was so boring, the only thing I could was stop it and go to sleep.
I spit on your grave 7/10 - Not bad, some gruesome stuff but in the end it was just recycled story. Hillbilly's in the middle of nowhere doing horrible acts.
My Soul To Take 9/10- Excellent movie, great suspense and a fresh story.
Life As We Know It 10/10 - Awesome movie, had everything that a good comedy/drama should.
You Again 8/10- Another funny movie with a great story and some good laughs.
Unstoppable 9.5/10 - Fantastic movie with great action and suspense. Not originally what I thought it was but still a fantastic movie.

Luckily I saw Avatar on day one, so no hype, just loved the movie. Saw it 4 times at the movies, then a few more time on Blu-Ray. Unfortunately, I can't speak for the IMAX version which I can only imagine was spectacular, because there are no IMAXs over in Uruguay, but I saw it on a regular/large theater screen and still thought it was amazing. I'll admit though that it's probably a film you have to see in theaters the first time, no matter how big a TV you have...

As a total Avatar fanboy I find that a bit misleading and maybe even insulting to the film... The special effect are not "cartoons", Cameron took the technology from LOTR and King Kong to a whole new level and every single expression made by those big blue cats are were captured from real live actors. Not only their facial expressions, they even had too learn how to move, walk, fight, anything you would have to learn for a live action character (hell, they even came up with a language and made the actors learn it). So what you're seeing isn't just a cartoon with a voice over like in a Disney-Pixar movie, rather an actual person doing it all and later having virtual makeup applied to make them look like aliens. Even most of the sets were "real" (as real as you get in any movie, with obvious CGI, but still filmed from actual things).
And whether you may or may not like the story, the one thing that everyone has to agree on is that this is to date the most highly photorealistic film ever made, I'd say the only one to date besides 2001 A Space Odyssey. Cameron took us to another planet, with other beings, other animals, other technology, and other fauna and there is not a single frame in the movie that looks fake. For all I know he could have actually went to Pandora and filmed it there because that movie looks more real than anything I've ever seen on screen, it's a landmark, the way sci-fi should be made from now on.
Here's a few images of the motion capture process, you should check out some behind the scenes videos about them in Youtube too, they're very interesting.
Ufff... sorry bout that, but I'll defend Avatar like it's my mom![]()
Now on to my favorite all-time movies:
1- Titanic. Yes, I'm a sucker for Jim Cameron and I can watch this movie 1000 times.
2- The Departed. Saw this movie like 2 or 3 years after it was released and it climbed to #2 instantly. Also Leo DiCarpio climbed on to my #1 favorite young actor.
3- Avatar. I think I talked about this one already.
4- Bladerunner. Again, saw this movie kinda recently, about 4 or 5 years, and fell in love. Best art direction ever (followed by Avatar).
5- 2001: A Space Odyssey. Been watching this movie since I was a kid and it grows more on me every time. The visual FX are INSANE for a movie this old, this and Avatar are the only two movies that feel completely 100% photorealistic to me.
I guess those are my top 5, hate to leave a bunch more outLast edited by felipe-11 on Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:02 pm, edited 1 time in total.
The last movie that was on my screen was public enemies, and IMO it was not that good that everyone seems to think... don't get me wrong i liked it but to me it was just an average movie. Sure Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are great actors, but have seen better movies!
So on to my favorite movies... i find it kinda hard to pick out 5 movies, but some movies i enjoy is:
Stand By Me - I always feel so uplifted when i have watched this movie, maybe it is the strong band between friends.
Anchorman - Love Will Ferrell & Ron Burgundy!
300 - Love the colors, the feel and the surrounding.
And if i can throw in some series:
My absolute-favorite serie is It's always sunny in philadelphia - Cracks me up every time... can't wait til next season which I heard will come in 2011!
And of course Scrubs - How doesn't like scrubs?

I am on the same page as Felipe on Avatar. It is so far from a cartoon that I double-taked when i watched it the first time because of how real it looked.
You can't say it doesn't look real if you think the Na'vi look fake.. because they are not human...\
you can't say the fauna and planet looks fake, because we have never seen things like that before.
I agree 100% that it could have very well been filmed on Pandora and James just put all those features together for show.
I was so worried about this film when i hear about it because it's theme reminded me of Final fantasy Spirits within and Polar Express and Beuwolf.. .those moves turned real people into CG characters, but I could never believe it because their faces did not move like ours do... they looked plasticy!
I was dreading Avatar would look the same... but OMG, those faces are absolutely flawless, gets me every time i watch it.
I think most of the negative reviews come from over-hype... people place the movie on a pedestal before they see it, and if it doesn't live up to that exactly how they expected, then they end up not liking it.
I went in with an open mind, i let the movie prove to me how good it was.
I do think it got robbed of Best Picture by the terribly boring and horrible Hurt Locker... at the least James should have hands down gotten best Director for creating that masterpiece! Instead Bigelow got the win because she created a movie anyone could have!
I saw Avatar three times in theaters including it's re-release, and a hand full more on Blu-ray!
Was the storyline predictable.. yea... but a lot are... and the story had been done before... but Cameron took a fresh spin on an old theme and brought it to the modern century!
That's MO!
--------
My favorite TV show of all time: FRIENDS!!!!
I have seen all 238 episodes at least twice... some at least 20 times! And I still love watching it!

Must agree, the best low budget film of all time, awesome cast and tim curry steals every scene, just love the way how they did the ending, all of them. "Okay, Chief, take 'em away. I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife."
As for top 5 Tv
Big bang theory
Red Dwarf
Stargate SG1
House
and a tie for fifth between Eureka/next gen/Dr Who/Batman (the cheesy Adam west version) and fringe

If I'm not mistaken Final Fantasy SW was not motion captured, simply CGI from the ground up, I could be wrong though...
Ugh, don't get me started on the Hurt Locker, that one is without a doubt the most over-hyped film I've ever seen... even without the hype I thought it was an extremely weak film... I was practically yelling at my TV when Bigelow stole that Oscar... not to mention Best Direction (they only gave it to her to shut feminists up).
Friends has been my favorite show ever up until recently, I've watched every episode at least 5 times, I used to watch it in the morning and then watch the same episode when it aired in the afternoon and still laugh... But my new found love is Californication, I love it! Best show I've ever seen. Seen seasons 1-3 twice, waiting for the whole series to come out in Blu-Ray, it just puts a smile to my face before it even starts every Sunday!
My Fav TV shows:
1. Smallville
2. Sons Of Anarchy
3. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
4. Supernatural
5. Goosebumps
6. Are You Afraid Of the Dark adn many more.
(Newer Shows)
1. No Ordinary Family
2. The Cape
Sliders was great until the final season than it was just crap.

Wow... this thread really turned into a "Avatar is Amazing" brainwashing session. I'm not denying the technical prowess of the film. I just think Cameron is tad overhyped and forgets to inject a lot of his films with a sense of "fun." Maybe if I had seen it before all the hype, I'd feel differently. Plus, I could give two sh*ts about something looking photorealistic, if the story is captivating, I'll excuse or even overlook it. Toy Story 3 wasn't photorealistic, and I loved the hell out of that film.
Anyway...
If we're on to TV shows now... again, I can't really rank them, but my top five might be (in no particular order): Angel (particularly season 2, 3, & 5), Buffy (particularly season 1-4), Arrested Development, Justice League Unlimited, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But there's a lot more that I enjoy, but wouldn't consider favorites like Married... with Children, Scrubs, The Office, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Thundercats, The Simpsons, Reno 911, Smallville, True Blood, Friends, and Lost.
I'd also throw in Community and The Walking Dead, I love both of those shows but feel that they're still too new to consider them favorites, especially since they might start to suck in future seasons (although I really hope not). The Office (US) and Scrubs would have easily been top picks for me if they had stopped around season 3, but they kept going and got a little too ridiculous, unbelievable, and annoying as they progressed.
Smallville would rank higher if it didn't spend about 7 seasons doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. That show has so much potential, and they like to tease us with that potential, but often fail to payoff when it really counts (Doomsday battle, anyone?). I have this sinking feeling (considering there's only a handful of episodes left), that this whole Darkseid storyline is going to fail to deliver as well.
Oh, and Felipe-11... I'm still working my way through Californication, haven't gotten too far though, but I really enjoy it. It's a show that you can tell people that you like because of the writing and storylines, but secretly, you really tune in for all the hot steamy female nudity! Any show that gives us a nude Madeline Zima, Eva Amurri, Addison Timlin, and the Extenze spokesmodel girl can't be all that bad!!
