Baby Steps...

So I was able to spend a couple more hours tonight working on the cover... while watching Stealth! Guess I've seen Iron Eagle a little too much lately so was changing it up.

- Altered the metal texture in the background
- Removed 90% of shadow on TT
- Added explosions - not easy, probably need to tweak some more
- Added HUD, re-created directly from movie screen caps
- Added Doug and Chappy close-ups in the sky
- Added slight motion blur to F-16
- Added slight motion blur to enemy base
- added spine

Camera What?
I want to try the Camera Raw Filter idea but honestly I've never done it so I've been waiting until I was closer to being done. I'll probably give it a try this weekend to level everything out and give it a more cohesive look... we'll see!

Anyway, I took into account a bunch of feedback from everyone, but it all might not be seen here just yet. Tonight I focused on the ground explosions, HUD display, and I really like the idea of having the close up views of Chappy and Doug in the background. If you watch the movie it seems like 50% of it are those views and I'm trying it out on the front cover.

Here's the PSD file: fire & explosions

It's size is about 40 MB so I don't know if there's a way to put it in the gallery?

Thanks for the explosions Fidi, these will definitely be helpful in the future.

Here's where I left off late last night:

I've been trying different F-16 images because in the movie they never had the two large external fuel tanks and I want it to be fairly accurate. However I love that view of the plane so I just removed them. I also did...

- Added the old style TT but in a metallic look. I'm not loving this texture, but the logo slant is unique which I do like. I'm going to work on the TT some more and see where that goes.
- Started to add a long white reflection to the logo but didn't finish it. I may try and make it look like the TT is zooming along, or that's what I had in mind.
- Made the main characters a little larger
- Moved the F-16 fully behind the logo
- Forgot to switch the TT on the spine but I won't worry about that until I land on a finall TT
- Played with the HUD layout but I think I should have left it cause I think it works very well in the last version.

I think I may focus on the back cover for a couple weeks and leave this alone for a while to get a away from it. Then I can come back and get a fresh look at it... we'll see.

Nice update, it's getting better and better.

- The size of the tagline's letter is to big in my opinion and the italic effect isn't working for me
- Just as your metal texture - it's worth a try removing it
- the explosions are looking good to me - only the one on the right could use some more detail (it has less detail than the other ones but it's the nearest to the viewer)
- The clouds behind the title could use some more detail as well - use some cloud brushes with one or two different bright tones of grey to get that
- I'd go back to the title of #22 - the angle of your update looks very, very strange to me compared to the perspective of all other elements of your front ;)

Just playing with tagline, I'm not sure if I want it in or out. I like a texture, but I agree, not sure if I love that one. Those explosions take longer than they should! I didn't get to any of your suggestions just yet, but I did want to show how the old TT from the original poster (just google it) could look.

Over the next few days I'll do some more work!

I think it might look better if the characters on the front are switched over

Like this Monster... you may be right. :-)

Fidi, I removed the tag for now, fixed that one explosion, messed with the clouds a little, I may need to do more, reduced the metal texture a lot and added grain AND I messed with the original TT from the poster more to make it more like #22.
