Guess i'll need to decide if i'll change or not my gladiator cove for this one..
I agree with J about the stills but the cover will be a great one again

Great work on this one BD. Not to keen on the gold bar on the front though. Took a moment for me to get the white work for this movie, but grew on me rather quickly.

Love it so far. The front works on many levels.
Have you thought about making the frame around the stills in the same color and texture as Maximus Decimus Meridius' helm.
If you go with a quote on the front, I think "Today I saw a slave become more powerful than the Emperor of Rome" would be perfect with the way you made "the slave" the focal point of the front.
Also if you use another quote on the back, I think "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius ..." would work great with "Today I saw a slave become more powerful than the Emperor of Rome" from the front. On the front he is "the slave", on the back we learn his true identity.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys! I'm still considering all of the suggestions, but I figured I'd get this debate set first... Gold or Bronze/Brown?

I tend to agree that the front bar was drawing a little too much attention, but I like it as a framing device and to match what I've done on the spine
and back. I made it a bit thinner (same thickness as title font now); do you think that helps at all, or is a complete removal still the preferred route?

I really like it Tim, after carefull consideration i think i prefer the bronze/brown. No need to remove the bar imo.

Amazing piece of work! I prefer the gold version. And I think the bar compliments the title treatment. Great job!

Thanks for swaying me.

As much as the bronze (and actually silver even more so perhaps) compliments the design, the "LOOK AT ME!" effect of gold is indeed winning me over.
So now it's the delicate balancing act of the front. The slightly darker background Irrob suggested earlier on definitely looks better, but I'm not sure if, by adding text or putting the statue centered, I'm now taking too much attention away from the face. I'm thinking I'll end up going with the current setup, but no harm in exploring four final other options, just in case...

Centered BG:

Tagline:

And then there's the anchored bottom:

Almost definitely the first one... right? ...aah, the finish is always tricky!
