Didn't know the cover scene had gangsters... are we talking Al Capone gangsters or Tupac gangsters?
Not exactly breaking news, but somewhat recent news I suppose...
I found these on a random Google search the other day... seems that users of the Avengers Blu-ray "Second-Screen App" have discovered official images of the Mad Titan himself, Thanos! For the uninitiated, Thanos was the mystery villain revealed in close-up during the closing seconds of The Avengers, and is rumored to be getting more screentime in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film and Avengers 2. In the comics, Thanos wielded the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet and I, for one, am hoping that Marvel is setting up an adaptation of this storyline in "Phase 2" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So without further adieu, I give you... Thanos!!

Bust this about Thanos and the Avengers: Loki was never to return to Asgard, Thanos wants the Infinity Gauntlet which is in Asgard (as seen briefly in Thor, sans mind gem, which is important later). How do you get it back? You give Loki the one gem you do have (which just so happened to be missing from the gauntlet), if he wins, he gets you the gauntlet, if he loses, he gets taken back to Asgard where the gauntlet is and now you have an ally in Asgard so you can get the gauntlet. In the mean time you also learn that there are some bad@$$ superheroes on a world that you can fight to impress Death, who you, as Thanos, are madly in love with. The bad guys totally won and either Loki is super sneaky or the Other (Annihilus) and Thanos tricked Loki too! It also bugs me that no one realizes the Chitari (or whatever) is what the Skrulls were called in the Ultimate universe and they couldn't call them skrulls or Annihilus by his name because those two things are covered under the Fantastic Four licsence over at Fox!
Rant over, continue being awesome everyone.

Not a bad theory, but seems a bit convoluted. I'd agree that the gem in Loki's scepter is not part of the Tesseract, but one of the Infinity gems, but I'm not able to tell if the Gauntlet from Thor is missing a gem. Can that be determined from the few brief frames in which the Gauntlet appears in Thor?Punisherchad wrote:QUOTE (Punisherchad @ Jan 13 2013, 01:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>It also bugs me that no one realizes the Chitari (or whatever) is what the Skrulls were called in the Ultimate universe and they couldn't call them skrulls or Annihilus by his name because those two things are covered under the Fantastic Four licsence over at Fox!
I realized that the Chitauri were the Ultimate version of the Skrulls, but I don't mind the name change. They were supposed to be a generic alien army with little backstory attached to them... basically just a nameless menace for the Avengers to fight.
As for Annihilus... where was he? Do you mean the Other who was speaking with Loki? I'm not sure that was ever meant to be Annihilus... but I could be wrong about that. I never read anything that would confirm or deny it.
I look at it this way... there's so much right about Avengers that I'm not too concerned with little changes like those. At least Marvel films have stopped feeling like they need to drastically alter the source material to make it palatable for mass audiences (like when Galactus was a cloud or Green Goblin was a Power Ranger).

The Green Goblin power ranger villain was the worst, Galactus as a Galactus' helmet shaped cloud was just sad! There was a brief scene in Thor and many pictures of the gauntlet where it was missing the mind gem. The Other was confirmed by someone at Marvel right around when it came out via twitter (Jemas maybe?) then they took it down probably for legal reasons with the Fox deal.
There's no way my theory is as convoluted as the plot of Iron Man 2....
