Just announced today in a press release from Warner Bros.!!!
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises! So I guess my assumptions that Hardy would be Hugo Strange (as I expressed over in SXS's Dark Knight Rises poster thread) were a bit off.
I think Hardy should be awesome as Bane, especially if they follow a look/transformation similar to the way the character is depicted in the video game Arkham Asylum. As for Hathaway, I'm not sure, she's nice to look at, and I was impressed with her comedic range on her recent Saturday Night Live appearance, but she still strikes me as a somewhat odd choice for such a sexual, seductive character like Catwoman. But I trust in Nolan, who gave us two solid Bat-flicks and a pretty solid filmography, as well. However, I had the utmost faith in Sam Raimi after delivering two solid Spidey films, and we all remember how his third film in the trilogy turned out...
Anyway, here's the official press release from WB:

QUOTE
Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.†She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.â€
In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.†Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises†is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.[/quote]
And in far less exciting news, also leaked today is this image for X-Men: First Class, which I don't think was quite finished before it popped up online. It shows most of the cast, and to be honest, I'm not impressed. I have faith in Vaughn and the two leads (Fassbender and McAvoy), but I have much less faith in Twentieth Century Fox to deliver an incredible X-Men film that isn't a quick cash grab and an attempt to retain the film rights to the characters so they don't revert back to Marvel. Because everyone knows that all of the best films ever made were rushed into production due to rights/licensing issues!!!

Left to right: Michael Fassbinder as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havoc, Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, and James MacAvoy as Charles Xavier.
So there you go... Spidey and Cap pics last week, Dark Knight news and a lame cast photo for X-Men: First Class this week! If nothing else, I'm glad to be hearing/seeing something out of these properties, since things seemed oddly quiet for the last few months...

You couldn't have said it better! She can be nice to look at, but I guess she wouldn't have been anyones first choice for Catwoman... I'm not sayin I want Megan Fox as Catwoman, but a brunette Scarlett Johansson would've been nice. But I guess Nolan doesn't really go for the super hot chicks to play his roles (you can't say Kattie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal are really sexy). But as you said, I trust Nolan too, and he'll probably surprise us as he did with Heath.
As for Bane, I can't picture him WHATSOEVER in Nolan's universe, unless there we're some drastic changes to the character, but I guess I'll have to wait and see...

I just cross my fingers and hope that Nolan never saw Bane in Batman & Robin!!!!!A designer knows he has achieved perfection - not when there's nothing left to add - but when there's nothing left to take away
