By HD I mean 1920x1080 and since we don't have that broadcastet over here I mean from a disc, more specific HDDVD. Bluray would also fall into the category.
I remember seeing some screenshots for Gladiator and Matrix broadcast source back before hddvd/bluray, so I know the quality is different there.

hmm. ok. Well I can say that with my gear the video/audio difference between DVD and Blu-ray is dramatic.

I'm not saying the difference isn't there, I'm just saying that on a small tv (<50) at a standard viewing distance (about 10 feet) the difference is limited, especially if you got a good player, good tv and a good dvd transfer (e.g. Moi

).
Bluray will always be for enthusiast (granted given my system I should fall under that category

) and I doubt will be of much interest with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson.

Plunk all that coin on an HDTV and an Advanced audio receiver, quit being cheap and go the extra mile.

yes, HDMI absolutely makes a difference. It's required for watching Blu-ray in full 1080p. Otherwise content will be down converted.

oh I didnt know you had DVI, keep it, it's just as good as HDMI. DVI output is not as popular as HDMI cause its rare in Blu-ray players. And HDMI carries video and audio, DVI just does video.
