It seems there is a similar occurance to here as there was over at r1db with the cover rating system in the end controlling the idiots was of no use so jay completely removed it and i gotta be honest it's working really well don't know if you'd wanna implement the same sort of thing here??
Just see how it goes some will do it on purpose so that get there name in the hall of shame for idiots like to rate covers you turn attention on them and they feel they've achieved something

back to uploading need to upload all my covers and labels here again

I think we should abolish the voting and just use the amount of times a cover/label has been downloaded as the basis for top rated cover/label. Unless your a complete prat, or have had pc problems, it isn't often you require a cover/label more than once

All of the above suggestions are really good, but we are limited as to what we can do with Coppermine. We can remove voting. Maybe we should start a poll, and see what people want?
And for your information, the 'views' on a cover, refer to the amount of times it has been downloaded. View means viewed full size image.

You're dead right, Caveman.
I spoke today to a member who deliberately targets top-rated covers, and gives them 3's.
And he sees nothing wrong in what he's doing!
Thanks to folks like him, the vote-based ratings are a joke.

Just out of curiosity did he give a reason why he does this just wondering.

Third for scrapping it seems to be more trouble than it's worth...

I know one of my covers got a bad vote by someone who made a comment apologising for the low vote as he meant it to be higher...so if this problem does exsist.....accidently voting and being unable to change it then it may pay to remove it.
As for pps making lame posts then i think Corky may have hit the nail on the head by going for the image displayed or number of downloads (so long as you can track WHO is grabbing them), i was once on a site where we did this and one guy who upped his covers downloaded them to the max! Talking 300+ to get him to top cover status...so getting this right takes time and a lot of consideration.
Good luck in re-solving this current problem.

Part of it also relies on having a solid member base where you trust what your members do, i get the impression from what I have seen so far that people can be trusted.

I personally think to give a cover on this site a low rating you must have one hell of a reason as all the covers are of the highest quality. And if you think the covers really are that bad you could always go to CC. (Oop sorry no swearing on this site).
