A good ole British movie................."Hush" [7/10]

I will certainly think twice before driving up the M1 again......!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie even though it had a Manc location and Manc Actors............but, I thought they worked well at it.
Strangely enough even though they were Manc's they managed to make the English language understandable and, nobody looked as though they completely high on drugs.
William Ash and Christine Bottomley bounced well off of each other and their acting skills were excellent.
OK....No Oscar winners here......but, keep an eye out for Director Mark Tonderai [his next movie "House at the End of the Street" is due 2012].....he has a touch of Hitchcock's about him.

Starring newcomers Will Ash and Christine Bottomley, Hush has Mark Herbert producing, who previously worked with Shane Meadows on This Is England, and Robin Gutch, who produced Touching The Void, as well as Tonderai's partner Zoe Stewart, with whom he founded Shona Productions. The film follows a couple, Zakes and Beth, as they drive home along the M1. When Zakes sharply avoids an accident with a white van he is chased by its driver. As the couple's car is overtaken the tailgate lifts up to fleetingly reveal a woman bound and bloodied in the back. They stop at a service station, and after an argument, Beth goes missing. Warp X has said that Hush, in the great tradition of horror movies, investigates today's culture and the fears and neuroses that can arise from it. What was your thinking behind making this film?

Gone Baby Gone (2007) 9/10

I bought this movie last weekend without seeing it prior or really knowing the plot but the South Boston thriller was filled with good performances and great twist.

Worth the buy!!!

I've got to concur with Nikerun on Gone Baby Gone....I watched it a while back (more than a year), but it's a great movie if you've not seen it.

I just watched "Get Low". I never would have heard about this movie except for someone's label request that I filled. I picked it up because I figured with Robert Duvall & Bill Murray it had to be at least passable. I enjoyed it, although it is probably not everyone's cup of tea. Set in the early 1900's (maybe as late as 1920?) it's the story of a Hermit who decides to throw his own funeral party, while he's still alive.

Last movie I watched was my long-awaited BD version of 'Once upon a time in America' which still roxx!!!

I'll give it 9/10.

Acting, directing, locations, all is simply so well done. I think the last time I felt about a movie like that was watching 'Gangs of New York'

It was that movie that really gave me the respect for Ben Affleck as a director... an now with The Town, he has really gotten good.

But to me he was meant to do those things, he practically started his career when he won the award for writing wih Matt Damon for Good Will Hunting... To me that is what he is meant to do... he's way better at it any ways!

Beastly (Theater): 8/10

I quite liked this one, had some substance to it, and really liked the makeup done for Alex!

Also, Mary-Kate did a pretty good job as a creepy witch!

Faster (8/10) not a bad movie but not much of a storyline.

Burlesque (8/10) Not a pure musical but it was pretty and the story wasn't too bad.

127 Hours (6/10) It's probably just me but this really wasn't my cup of tea. I found it kinda of boring

Wow... my opinion of you is falling swiftly, bpm!! Beastly? The trailer for that teenage turd hurt me in more ways than multiple punches to the left nut... I hate when movies try to take beautiful people and make them "ugly." I mean, what was with his stitches/makeup crap? That's Hollywood's definition of hideous, a supermodel in lame makeup? Come to my town, you will find new definitions for "ugly."

And what's with referring to "Office Space" and "Night at the Roxbury" as old comedies? How old are you?!? They came out like ten years ago (maybe 15 at this point). I do enjoy them for what they are (Office Space more than Roxbury), but they're hardly "old." Granted, I'm not that old so somebody might argue this as well, but to me, old comedies where the laughs were just "there" would be Caddyshack, Dr. Strangelove, Clue, or going waaay back... Steamboat Bill, Jr. with Buster Keaton.

If only your taste in movies were as good as your cover making...

But, let's play this game...

Most recent film in theaters was "Black Swan." I give it 9/10. I take a point off because it certainly wasn't a film that leaves you smiling as you exit the theater... more like dizzy. I'm also not eager to give it a second watch, too much of a downer to be considered "entertaining." It's certainly well done and expertly acted, but it's quite a head trip. The g/f and I had to walk around outside for a little while afterwards, just to get some fresh air.

Most recent film watched was "Paranormal Activity 2" and it was probably a 2/10. More like "Normal Activity." If you want to spend 40 minutes of false tension waiting for a household object to move slightly, this is your film. The lamest part is that the studio still tries to market these films as "found footage." C'mon... we all know it's fake. That kind of crap *might* have passed back when Blair Witch kind of kick-started the subgenre, but it's played out now and kind of insulting to the audience's intelligence. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are folks who do think it's all real, and that's even more depressing... I'm not even sure why I watched it... boredom and curiosity, I suppose...

That's ok kernie, you can think less of me... for me I liked it, not because it actually portrayed ugly properly, but just because it entertained me, and the acting was decent to me!

I'm a pretty generous scorer tho, and I tend to like the majority of movies.

And, yes those are old tom me, I was younger when they came out so they are the old school comedies I like. The ones you mentioned were from before my time and frankly I haven't seen any of them... kill me if you wish, lol

Call me young, but that's just me.

And I agree about PA2, but I liked it a bit more. What did you think of the first one?

RRJR - And i can see how you might have seen 127 hours as boring, it does take place in one spot, but for me I love those types of movies (Phone Booth, Buried).

Better... can you name your top 5... i actually have a list... might make you think even less of me tho, who knows!
