Don't you think it gets too empty up there?

Actually, no. I think the negative space looks good.

Now that I'm viewing this on my own screen at home I see some black level issues on the front that didn't show up on my iMac at school (same iMac as you have at home), you might want to run some eyedropper on this image. changing the rgb spectrum in levels from 0-255 to (2-255) fixes it.

About that back, I think the Brody image on the back looks a little too goofy.
My covers may only be viewed on well calibrated screens and printed on well calibrated printers.

This is looking great JR,I haven't seen the movie either but I'm guessing it fits it pretty well. I do agree with ubl about the picture of Brody on the back, it doesn't look good at all...
Also I like the TT from post nº 6 the best, the one eith the underlining. Oh and I love the label!

Looks great, but I also agree with UBL on the image on the back. It looks like Brody is doing an impersonation of Robert DeNiro :giggle:

goofy?! :O I think he looks kinda lost, sad, crushed, humiliated - and ugly (but that's his mother's fault)... In fact I think Adrian Brody will always look kinda goofy no matter what film he's in... :sponge1:

I running short on other usable images for that position anyhow. The ones I have are all from the beginning of the film, with him all dressed up in fancy clothes.
Not really suitable to give the scene some power... It would just look odd against the bombed-out Warsaw on the top back pic.... So I think I'll leave Brody as he is - but will give the pic an overhaul to get the most of it... ;)

Please note that the front image is the only I've adjusted - the rest has only gotten a quick gradient map treatment to ensure the colour tone of the cover.
I will work some more on each of the other pictures when I have finalized the rest (layout, specs aso).

Oh, and almost forgot: To all you people, that have yet to watch this film:

Do it!!!

Oh, almost forgot:

Was recommended on another site to add some kind of subtle texture to the black space on the back...

I'd like some second opinions on that, please :) - as I rather enjoy clean colours atm (so my opinion may be a little biased).

I like the black negative space (as Daniel put it) - and thinks it helps to bring the front and back of the cover together. But what do I know?

What do you guys think?

Hey Jolly!!

i saw the movie and and it's a great one, as for your cover of it i think it reflects the mood of it, the treatment you did of the picture for the front is very good it's bare like the movie left me thinking what would i do to survive???

great work as for me don't change much of anything!!!

Here are my thoughts, JR:

1) On the front, can you slide the image of Brody up a bit to decrease the amount of empty black space between the top of his head and the tagline? It feels a bit bottom-heavy with the majority of his face, TT, and actor/director names all towards the lower part of the cover. Moving Brody's eyeline further away from the vertical middle might help that.

2) Can you move the "Riveting Adventure Story" quote elsewhere or drop it entirely? It seems odd placed below the SF box and above the credit block.

3) I agree with the others who said Brody's image on the back seems a bit too goofy. In context of the film, I'm sure it makes sense for his emotional state, but he looks like a crying Muppet in that pic. Although, when does Brody not look like a crying Muppet? :D :D

4) Can you make the left and right sides of the special features box extend off the edges of the cover and maybe put a texture over the background gradient? I'd also avoid All Caps on the features list.

5) Be careful about the critic quotes/award winner text blending in with the background.

6) Do you need that awkward barcode on there? I know the usage of a barcode boils down to personal preference, but I think it's in the way and taking up valuable design space at the moment.

7) At the moment, everything on the back cover seems a bit too small... what I mean is there's not enough variation in the size of each element to create any tension or balance. My eye doesn't really know where to look first... :(

Well, I think that's enough nitpicking for now. You work on these suggestions and I'll work on your wide spine "Adventures of Superman" covers... :D :D :D
