I myself am addicted to Grunge Brush sets. I've got hundreds and hundreds of them... love them to death!
Well, never done it as radically as kylumi - but I use brushes for mostly grunge, and light effects.
Try and search for the SS brushes series - a great many good brushes there. Remember - if you use brushes to get light beams for instance ALWAYS use the brushes on a seperate layer. Then you are free to play around with opacity, blend methods, you can delete or add to it, change size aso.
