I think It might have something to do with, that the lower ranked groups aren't really motivated to participate . . .
Obviously the contributor/member group is no match for a master designer.

And getting your a$$ kick every time could not be much fun now can it ?
Why participate in a comp you know you can't win ?

Can't speak for the others ofcourse, but that certainly isn't the case for me. I'll enter no matter how hard I get my a$$ kicked lol.
Competing with better artists really pushes me to get better, much more anyway then just making a cover does.

Besides, you never know beforehand that you won't win. Ky's competition proved that for me last month...

For me it was just a lack of time. Not sure I'll be able to enter the next competition either, but when I get the time I'll certainly have a go at it again!

Your feelings support my thoughts that lack of spare time was a factor. flipper, you bring up a great point, which was a goal of mine when putting this thing together....that we would get artists pushing themselves to improve based on friendly competition. There are never winners or losers in the HRC ever, there are people submitting great work every month. :)

Great work on the covers

Time is the main factor for me when deciding to enter a comp or not...I'm never bothered if I get my a$$ kicked :D

Although i agree that i was a bit disappointing to see there where only 3 covers this month.

Therefor it might be better to split the comp in a member/contributor voting and a designer/master voting.

BTW Great work from the both of you on some amazing covers

yep, so true masters are masters, and they seem to be the only Noms for COM, so as above why bother. Personally I have different tastes than the majority for topics or cats, but I enter when it interests me, chance of a win or not. Sorry Irrob, of course many congrats!

True that some contributors have been overlooked for COTM noms in the past. But that's a whole other bag of marbles.

To the other entrant: Kylumi, your covers were brilliant as well. Please post your covers in the show-case thread to get the proper recognition they deserve.

As someone who used to enter in almost every competiton, I can tell you guys that a lack of time is why I couldn't participate this time, and is probably the case for a lot of us. But it's true, getting your @$$ kicked every month can be kinda depressing. I know that's no one's fault since it's all put up to popular vote... But it could be a deterent to other creators. I don't know how you could fix that problem, since really only one person can win. I just think the interaction on the board has died down a little bit... A few years ago when I joined the site there was a LOT of feedback, a lot of talking, a lot of comments, compliments and suggestions. I'd like to see that level of involvement again on the site. I know I, for one, will try and do more...
