[attachment=11841:av_241.jpg] Introducing Rob (the one without OSBD and a bum chin)

The cover World Stuff

Where did your nickname come from?
I wish I could say there was some inspiration, but it is simply a combination of the first two letters of my last name and the first three letters of my first name.
What part of the world do you come from?
Delaware, USA
What got you into designing covers in the first place?
This whole thing started out of a one time neccessity. I bought a used copy of Gone in 60 Seconds, which had no cover. I took a chance and web searched for DVD covers. Lo and Behold, I found sites such as DVDcoverArt, DVDTalk, Daproggers, Dagon's Den, MADVD, and even Hirescovers (in it's first incarnation). I anonymously DL'd covers until I decided that was selfish as hell. So, I started my cover making journey.
Is there anyone on the cover making scene that has inspired you?
Hell yea. I studied the classics baby. Guys like Bunny Dojo, Shorn, Darth Vong and Scaramanga gave me my mental template. More contemporary dudes like Stalker, DMXinc and SXS provided further refinement of my style. I hate leaving names out because every one of you Master Designers inspire me to this day. To say I haven't borrowed certain techniques from all of you would be a lie. I love all the styles you do, and I encourage everyone to appreciate all the different beautiful stuff being created, even if it isnt your cup of tea. Go visit their galleries, from kylumi all the way to zantasha.
What would be your best advice to any up and coming designer?
Don't go into it trying to be original, aint happening dude. From JasonTheGiant to dweez, trust me, it's been done already. Feel free to use celebrated artists for inspiration. Take constructive critisizm well, and when you become great at it, don't become so full of yourself that you consider yourself bigger than the craft, subsequently going into bizarre isolation from the rest of the cover world. I guess what i'm trying to say is, don't go all Howard Hughes on us. Most importantly, never be a cover style racist. Marinate in that for a minute...
What’s your favourite cover you have made?
I don't have a favorite cover. But, for the sake of answering the question, my Enter the Dragon cover is one cover I don't feel I need to revisit.
[attachment=11845:etd.jpg]
What’s your least favourite cover you have made?
Everything I made prior to my 2001: A Space Odyssey cover, I hate looking at.
What’s your favourite cover that someone else has made?
I have alot of favorites. It would be fair to say I have a favorite cover from every master designer and cover designer on this site. To single out one, I have to choose Bunny Dojo's Blade Runner cover as the most influential. How old is this cover now, I'm not sure anymore. In my opinion it was years ahead of everything else in terms of typography and technique used, at the same time being true to a partuclar style of cover I prefer. Pure photoshop skill without add ons or plug-ins. This cover has stood the test of time and has inspired lots of artists' styles to date.

The Personal Stuff

What is your real name?
Rob
What do you do for a living?
I'm a director of a rehabilitation department which provides Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology services. I have a license in Speech-Language Pathology. And I still do practice occasionally.
Any kids (that you know of)?
Yea, he's a freshman in college. Sucka is bleeding me dry.
Any brothers/sisters?
Younger brother. Almost done with law school.
What was your childhood like? Share an interesting "growing up" story.
I was born in the Bronx, But I mostly grew up on St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands. life was quite garden variety as far as growing up goes, except we lived on a resort island. I was a very straight laced kid growing up. But I did have that phase in junior high where I rolled with the wrong crowd a bit. My family basically kicked my a$$ then transferred me to private school. That was that.
What is your favourite food?
Real New York City pizza. Not that Brooklyn style crap from Dominos.
Tell us about your best vacation.
When I went back home to St. Croix after 10 years of being away. The nostalgia was overwhelming.
What is your favourite type of music/band?
Reggae. The Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gregory Issacs reggae, not that Sean Paul s***.
What is your favourite movie of all time?
No such thing as having one all-time favorite movie. If someone answers that, I guarantee they thought about it for days. I have a list of go-to movies for my entertainment. they would be (in no particular order) The Matrix, Godfather I and II, The Dark Knight, Silence of the Lambs, Romero's Dawn of the Dead, No Country for Old Men, Enter the Dragon, The Exorcist, and John Carpenter films pre 1995.
What is one place would you like to visit?
Iraq, when they get their s*** together. But I'd settle for any country in the Middle East.
What other hobbies do you have besides movies & graphics?
I'm a blossoming videophile and audiophile, and a Farmville addict baby!
What is the best thing that ever happened to you?
My Honorable discharge from the US Air Force, followed by my college degree and subsequent career which has kept me alive and well.
What is the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?
I laughed so hard I farted once.
What is your favourite colour?
#800000
What is your favourite animal?
Male lion
Who is your favourite actor?
Robert DeNiro
If you could meet one person, who would it be, and why?
Dead or alive? Bruce Lee. That's one guy that never knew the concept of "small talk".
If you could be one person, who would it be and why?
Lebron James. He got game, fame and probably will win the NBA title this year.
What super power would you have, and why?
I want all of the Fantasic Four's powers rolled into one. It's a complete package of mayhem. And I'd probably end up being a super villain too.
What is your favourite car or motorcycle?
2010 Lamborghini Murcielago
Are you a night-owl or an early-bird?
A little bit of both really.
If you knew you had 24 hours to live, how would you spend that time?
Back on St. Croix at the finest resort surrounded by my coolest peeps.

Some strange stuff

Have you ever been shot?
Define shot. By an arrow to the leg? yes. Bullet? No.
Have you ever shot someone?
I don't think I ever have.
What size feet do you have?
11
Do you like Spam?
It's alright. I ate stuff like that a couple weeks after surgery on my jaw.
Do you like Spam mail?
NO
What's your favourite colour of sky?
#CFD9E6
Did you go out last night?
Nah. I don't go out much anymore.
What’s your worst nightmare?
Being like Will Smith in I Am Legend
If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would do with the money?
Give all the playa haters the finger and then peel off, retire, then travel. Stop by Felipe's. Maybe scoop up Darren and Jakob while I'm passing through.
Pick three people of your preferred s3x, and decide if you would marry, sleep with, or throw them off a cliff.
If I were single of course, I would marry Freida Pinto, sleep with Kim Kardashian then throw her off a cliff when I'm done.

All good will to all mankind. I'm out. :D :D :D

Very interesting Rob :) Never knew about St. Croix - a place I'm taking my family (an old promise to my girls) to see all the old Danish colonial buildings and sh1t. I hear the weather and ppl there are cool too :)
A designer knows he has achieved perfection - not when there's nothing left to add - but when there's nothing left to take away

To all my Middle Eastern friends, this is chefjoe's opinion, not mine.
