[attachment=11734:av_1823.gif] Introducing, our very own ubl!

The cover World Stuff

Where did your nickname come from?
Can't recall, but I got a slightly washed out tattoo on my left arm that says it.
What part of the world do you come from?
Denmark, Albertslund. 10 clicks from Copenhagen
What got you into designing covers in the first place?
I think it was a combination of snapper cases and getting a DVD Recorder
Is there anyone on the cover making scene that has inspired you?
There are a lot of people who have inspired me. When I started out I tried to imitate the style of the covers that I liked, still do. If I have to drop a name I guess it would be Scaramanga.
What would be your best advice to any up and coming designer?
To quote Jim Jarmusch "'Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination...And don’t bother concealing your thievery—celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from—it’s where you take them to.""
What’s your favourite cover you have made?
Hard to say, I have always been quite happy with my cover for "Ran". I think it came out quite nice given the source material and that it was fairly original and also captured the theme of the movie. Of course if I were to make it today, it would come out quite different.
What’s your least favourite cover you have made?
If we assume that I have improved for each cover I have made, it should be my first cover that would be the worst and also my least favorite. That being said, I'm actually quite impressed with my first cover, though it lacked in many areas, there were a wide range of effects, involving many advanced technics that ended without disasterous errors (WIP forum helped a lot). Since then there have been a few rush jobs and some very early covers for movies far from a release date that I'm I have long since deleted from my harddrive and the sites that I had control over. No need to mention titles :)
What’s your favourite cover that someone else has made?
Powers' Stargate cover made a big impression on me when he released it, and it still does.

The Personal Stuff

What is your real name?
Daniel
What do you do for a living?
Art Director and Graphic Designer for a small advertising company in Copenhagen
Any kids (that you know of)?
No
Any brothers/sisters?
1 older brother and 1 older sister, both a fair bit older then me. I wasn't exactly planed :D
What was your childhood like? Share an interesting "growing up" story.
Had a bit of a tumble at 17 resulting in a pretty effective dose of amnesia. A bit of the memory have returned, but most of my childhood is still a big void. But being a surburben kid growing up in a well educated family, I guess my childhood has been fairly standard.
What is your favourite food?
Steak
Tell us about your best vacation.
I remember having one of those I-can't-believe-this-is-real moments when I was cruising on the back of a pickup truck on The Galapagos. A truely amazing place, that I hope I get to revisit one day.
What is your favourite type of music/band?
I'm pretty hooked on the Indie scene right now, bands like Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, m83 etc., but nothing beats Pink Floyd.
My top 10 would be
10. Velvet Underground
9. Massive Attack
8. U2
7. Nirvana
6. Jimi Hendrix
5. Radiohead
4. Sigur Rós
3. Sonic Youth
2. David Bowie
1. Pink Floyd
What is your favourite movie of all time?
If we exclude the 4 big trilogies: Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Back to the Future (Godfather isn't a trilogy) there have been 3 movies competing for the title. Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now and A Space Odessey. But then Wall-e came and made the decision easy.
What one place would you like to visit?
Never been to the States. Never been in outer space either though.
What other hobbies do you have besides movies & graphics?
My music collection is growing more rapidly then my movie collection these days.
What is the best thing that ever happened to you?
First love have left quite an impression. For better and worse I guess.
What is the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?
I'm not the type to get embarrased, but i do recall several situations that others might consider embarrasing, but since this is a family friendly forum, I think I'll keep it hush. ;)
What is your favourite colour?
PANTONE 15-4020 TC
What is your favourite animal?
Snow Leopard
Who is your favourite actor?
Toshiro Mifune
If you could meet one person, who would it be, and why?
Never got to meet my grandmother on my mothers side. During the war she help housing allied parachuters and was part of the local rebellion. I imagine it could be fun hearing her stories.
If you could be one person, who would it be and why?
God, so I could set things straight around here.
What super power would you have, and why?
What ever that smurf with the big wang from Watchmen had. That should cover the basics.
What is your favourite car or motorcycle?
Aston Martin DB5
Are you a night-owl or an early-bird?
Night-owl
If you knew you had 24 hours to live, how would you spend that time?
Killing spree seems logical :)

Some strange stuff

Have you ever been shot?
They missed.
Have you ever shot someone?
Guns for show, knives for a pro.
What size feet do you have?
46
Do you like Spam?
No
Do you like Spam mail?
Thanks to them my penis is now 100 feet long and I have 3 billion Viagra pills to keep it saluting
What's your favourite colour of sky?
PANTONE 15-4020 TC
Did you go out last night?
I wen't across the street to visit a friend, does that count?
What’s your worst nightmare?
Having to be a contestant on Paradise Hotel
If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would do with the money?
Go to the bank, have them change it into pennies, melt the pennies and sell the metal for 2 million.
Pick three people of your preferred sex, and decide if you would marry, sleep with, or throw them off a cliff.
Marry: Liliane Bettencourt. She's 82 and worth about 18 Billion. Sleep With: Audrey Tautou. Throw off a cliff: Liliane Bettencourt after I have married her and gotten my name in the Testament

Nice interview Danny - and does your company need another graphic designer???
A designer knows he has achieved perfection - not when there's nothing left to add - but when there's nothing left to take away
