The Comic Book Collection by Kernie
I've been debating the inclusion of Static Shock, actually... I know it's technically in-continuity with the rest of the DCAU, but it didn't begin life as a comic book and I'm not sure if it should count. I tried to watch a few episodes of it, and I wasn't too thrilled with it... the Justice League crossovers seemed like ratings stunts. I also think only one 3-4 episode DVD was ever released for this show, so I'm still not sure if I should add it to the collection. What do other people think?
I'm also not sure about the Stan Lee cartoons, for the same reason that they weren't really comic books first.
Spider-Woman is a definite possibility (didn't it get a R2 release recently?) and I was waiting a bit on Batman: Brave and the Bold until the season finished airing in the U.S. (I saw an episode or two and while it is cheesy, it's a nice introduction to the DC Universe for younger viewers...) I'll try to get to those two shortly...
Thanks for the suggestions!!

I didn't know that Static Shock didn't start as a comic book, but I'd appreciate it if you did include it please...
And yes Spider - Woman is a R2 release as is Spidey and his amazing friends

Talking about Batman B&B for the kids, Marvel has a new show "Marvel Super Hero Squad" Jeez!!!

I'll do my best to include Static Shock, I have some imagery from the show, but I didn't realize that it ran for 4 seasons. I might not have enough artwork to do 4 sets, but I'll give it a go at some point.
Working on Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Season 1 at the moment... I'll probably include "Marvel Super Hero Squad" after the show actually premieres and more artwork becomes available. It's probably a good thing that both DC and Marvel and gearing more stuff towards kids, it gets them interested in the characters so that when they grow up, they can appreciate the more-adult-oriented "Batman: TAS" and "JLU."
Which reminds me... I should include "Krypto the Superdog" (for the kids...)

Thanks Kernie, I won't expect Static Shock anytime soon due to the lack of resourses, but I did find this about Static Shock, (not disputing you but it was a comic book first)
Thanks anyway

Hmmm... I guess you're right. I always thought it was an original cartoon concept by Dwayne McDuffie (who was writing for the DC shows at the time). I guess I never really looked into the history of Static Shock (probably because I wasn't terribly interested in the character or the show). I'll add the series to the collection eventually...
Thanks for clearing that up, DSTony!! I suppose I didn't know as much about comic book cartoons as I thought!!

Anyways, if your looking for ideas, maybe you can check these out:

Thanks for the lists, felipe-11!!
What's nice is that I already have most of the comic-based superhero cartoons covered (no pun intended), but it did remind me of a few that I've missed, like "The Mask: The Animated Series" (even though the cartoon was based more off the Jim Carrey movie, I'll still count it because it was a Dark Horse comic first). And speaking of Dark Horse, I need to start working on those Hellboy animated movies...
Anybody have a vector version of the Dark Horse comics logo?
Also... does anyone know if/when the Black Panther animated series starts on BET? I've done a quick search, and can't seem to find a premiere date. I don't really watch BET so I'm outside the loop on this series... although it seems like Marvel likes to announce shows and then sit on them for a while without setting a solid premiere date (like they did with Spectacular Spidey, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes). I swear, sometimes I think Marvel tries to kill their show's ratings by not securing a network first and airing entire seasons overseas before they premiere in the US (where the ratings seem to matter most in determining a show's future)... okay, rant over...

As for other titles. How about Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Was originally Xenozoic Tales when published as a comic. And then there's the Archie comic series. I also found out that The Secret Saturdays was originally published as comic book stories before the animated series started. There's also other Jay Stephens creations that started in comic book form and later became animated series like Tutenstein and Oddville & Jetcat. I don't know if any of these are collected anywhere but would make great additions. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.Last edited by donger on Sun Aug 30, 2009 1:23 pm, edited 1 time in total.
