Hey everyone, taking a break from my animated comic book covers to do a live-action comic book cover (I stick to what I know :D ). I know I'm not the first person to tackle "Watchmen," but I figured I'd give it a go anyway.

I'm starting with a rebuild of the R1 Director's Cut cover, but then I want to take it to the next level and really make it my own. Not quite sure how I'm going to do that yet, but I like what I have so far. I threw this together in the last 2 hours so it's far from finished but I wanted to put it out there for comments & criticism.

I plan to put in some shards of glass that are "flying out" at the viewer. The shards will have reflections of the other characters in them just like the R1 cover, but I want them to look more like a monochrome glass reflection.

Anyway, I'll let the work speak for itself and I welcome any comments, good or bad! Thanks!

Not sure if the broken glass brush you seem to have used (plz correct me if I'm wrong) works. The glass looks very thick, perhaps coz of the opacity. I suggest you try to lower the opacity a bit. Or you could try another brush. I have the Shatter Glass brushes set from archaii if you need em

Looks great so far. Only thing I'd change is the font for the police-line tape (that's what it is, isn't it?), it looks too "war-ish", I think those tapes use a helvetica...
And maybe match the yellow a bit more with the yellow on the TT .

I'd love the Shatter Glass brush set if you don't mind. I just found an image of shattered glass and did my best with it.

I'll also play with the font on the "police tape" and probably try to match the Watchmen TT font. By the way, does anybody know what the font for the TT is? It's probably something pretty common, I just haven't taken the time to find out yet.

There's a lot I want to do to this cover, just haven't had tons of time to put into it lately (stupid summer classes...), I'll try to have an update later tonight.

Thanks for the comments so far!! :D

The TT font is Futura, bold condensed I think.

I make my glass using the Pen Tool.............and, add a Blue and Black Layer to it, a bit of drop shadow and inner/outer glow and, Voila!!.....it beats a brush every time but, its a ball ache when you have to make a 100 pieces or so :giggle:

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'm probably going to use the Shatter Glass brush, but I do like ky's suggestion for the bigger pieces (but I definitely won't be drawing every single shard of glass with the pen tool).

Well, back to work... hopefully an update soon...
