But it is only now that we know which format is going to be used predominantly, that it is worth buying a player. I would be so pissed off if I had purchased a HD/DVD player, to find that it's gone beta-max!! Now bluray seems to have won the battle, they prices of the players should crash soon, then it will be worth while buying :P

Betamax fits the situation perfectly. Remember all those Betamax devotees? The high-priced Betamaxes? VHS won out due to much lower prices and equally good image and sound. And what company "invented" Betamax? Uhhhummmm... get it yet ? HAHAHA

I bought a HD DVD player from Amazon.com (Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player"for $238.88 has free shipping and the rebate for 5 HD movies 15 to chose from.
I'm old enough to remember beta and vhs war, Sony lost that one and I believe they will lose again but even if they don't I can still play my 1000 strong dvd collection in this up converting HD DVD player. The way I see it I cant lose

The BetaMax "war" had nothing to do with quality its technology was well in advance of VHS but, the price was not!

Today, things are different.............
