Are there any tutorials about cleaning up a scan?

I've got an older scanner, but it still pulls good quality. . Max 1600dpi I think. But it gets EVERYTHING. so it looks really dotty.

Any good ways to clean it up?

I've used Photoshop since I was 14 or 15, but never really learned how to clean up those kinds of scans.

Current photoshop version is CS2. No uber plugins or anything, Just straight out of the box.

should be a guide in the "guides" section.
My covers may only be viewed on well calibrated screens and printed on well calibrated printers.
