right, i was showed how to back up dvd's using dvd-rb and CCE, it was pretty good, but it took too long, so i bought a duel layer dvd+rw and a pack of phillips double layer +R dvd's thinking i could back up a dvd with no compression using shrink. i change the shrink settings to dvd9 and it goes through fine, but once i insert a dvd it says the size cannot fit onto a blank disk?
so i used shrink again this time i selected to create video and audio files and then went to burn them in nero and even though it fits onto the disk by about 2gb (judging by the red and yellow idicator at the bottom of nero) once i click burn it comes up with the same error?

does anyone else use duel layer without any compression or know why im getting this stupid error? the disk are 8.5gb there massive! i h8 computers lol

I do some dual-layer backups using "IMGBurner".
Just remember to set the settings to Use layer jumping (Tools\ Settings \ Write\ Check box for "Use Layer Jump Recording (-DL).

sound like dvdshrink is removing the layer break (this is a default setting) but its an old app and probably doesnt understand the dual layer format properly, if you dont want to remove anything or change the structure of the original disc you would be better off using a ripper that will save the disc as an image like dvd decrypter in iso mode and as B3ARStyL suggests use imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/ to write the disc.

or it could be that your burner doesnt like the discs you have, it would be worth while checking if the manufacture of your burner has released an updated firmware for it, check out their support or if that fails go to http://www.firmware.fr.st/ it maybe worth a look through the forums there to see if anyone else has the same problem as you.

Dvd decrypter won't work(Rip) newer dvds, and the program is no longer updated. So if you happen upon a dvd that won't work with dvd decrypter then download DVDFab Decrypter you can choose to burn a ISO file and then just burn again with dvd decrypter. Also, I would recommend only using Verbatim+DL discs. They have the best compatibilty among dual layer media.

Here is a Media Guide. Notice verbatim(MKM) dvd+r DL is 1st class and Phillips(CMC) dvd+r DL is rated 3rd class

And here is more FAQs for blank DVD media

Using DVD Decrypter to rip the disc in .ISO mode, then just open the .MDS file which includes the layer break information, select burn speed (lowest possible is usually the best option) and burn.

If however the DVD has ARccOS protection, rip using http://www.ripit4me.org/ that works with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink etc.

Don't use cheap media either.

Please remember people that copying dvds and the like IS illegal.
Hirescovers.net does not condone such actions and therefore closes thread.

If on the other hand it is a home movie, then that is fine. ;)
It has been a long time. Still two years to go.
Have been away a long time and still time to do.....
