OK, i am making a cover, the back ground is black, i have one other layer which covers front back and spine, i have set the overall brightness and contrast of the layer i want, now i want to reduce the opacity of just the back of the cover, now to me it makes sense to selct the back cover which i do with the marquee tool, i thought it would then just be a matter of reducing the opacity and it would do so only within the selection, not so, it reduces the opacity accross the whole layer, i have had a minor play with masking but maybe i am doing something wrong there....can any one tell me the correct procedure to aquire what i need ??
thanks
A Simple Problem ??
After you select the back with the marquee tool then cut it out, and past it back. It will make it a new layer which then you can change it's opacity alone. Atleast that's how I do it.

thanks for the quick reply, its prolly not the professional way to do it, but hey, if it works then its good enough for me, i suppose i could then merge the 2 layers back together.
thanks.
