is 3224x2161 the real cover size?

1. is it allowed to upload covers in this size? 3224x2161

2. why do we all use 3240x2175?

I don't really understand why you'd wanna upload covers at 3224x2161 since 3240x2175 is the size of a standard single amaray case.
At least for what I know of.

well according to amaray the REAL mesurements are 3224 x 2161

The masuements we all use (3240x2175) arnt the right one, they are a litte bit to large, so u have to cut a bit of all the edges.

There have been a couple of posts at the other sites saying the same thing but I have to say, I've never had a problem fitting a 3240x2175 cover into any of my cases. Not even one. A different post stated the Amaray site lists the dimensions as mm's which translates to this new size in px's ( I didnt try to verify this, just took his word for it). However, since we seem to able to count the people this affects with one hand, there's no reason to try and change the industry standard for customs (if you can call us an industry 8824.gif ). I know I'm going to keep making covers the regular size.

boemba you've probably gotten your hands on some odd cases or something.
I've never, ever had any problems fitting the 3240x2175 covers.
But just a suggestion, why don't you make them 3240x2175, upload and then resize for your own personal needs?

I've seen this issue just recently brought up on all the major cover sites, under various user names. boemba do you also post under the names Aristoles and soekie?

There is no "real" cover size. Retail covers are typically designed by an in-house studio or shopped out to a private studio but in either case the template size is dictated by the replication plant. In some cases, the artwork is entirely made by the replication plant's own people. Do some searches for replication plants and they all offer their templates for download, and the sizes all differ by a mm here or there.

Amaray can suggest whatever size they want but the fact of the matter is that the difference between 3240x2175 and 3224x2161 is negligable. You can easily cut off this much of a margin by accident when trimming out your cover. Retail covers differ in size by more than this.

If there is no industry standard then all that matters is that the cover scene set an appropriate scene standard, and that is 3240x2175. I believe this size came about simply because it was the size set by dvdcoverart which is what kinda started the whole custom cover craze for the masses. From then on it just stuck. It clearly works as a standard. It fits the case and it seems that 99% of established cover artists use it. So there's no reason to change it. As for whether alternative size are accepted on this site I guess that depends on how leniant the cover approver(s) want to be, but its definitely not an allowable cover size according to site rules.

The 3224x2161 thing, is a Dutch thing, and we all know that the dutch people are crazy. 8834.gif

I feel no need to comment on this since the answer has already been given in the 7 threads on 7 different sites.
My covers may only be viewed on well calibrated screens and printed on well calibrated printers.
