Since littlewazz asked I will toss out my 2 cents on the EFX failure. First I can't prove this but I'm not one who accepts unexplainable things as acceptable.

I think the host killed the server, it did die, they have refused to help us even though problems have been cropping up for a year at least behind the scenes.

This would not be the first time a cover site has been axed by a host I know of several and EFX was blown up by another host in 2013 some of you may recall that dark time.

What happens is cover sites take up a lot of space and eat up tons of bandwidth with all the big files going up and down daily, this makes them cost the host more than they can make off you and eventually if they are greedy some brain will figure out they can take the space you are using and split it into 10 smaller sites and make 10 times the money with less resources used.

Our original host sold out a year ago about the time problems began to crop up, I think it was the new owner drawing battle lines hoping we would move but that is not a simple thing and they know it too, they quoted us thousands of dollars per month to fix what I think they created in an attempt to extort more money from us and when we declined they killed it.

Nothing else makes sense, for years we never had a issue they could not resolve in less than 24 hours, then new owners take over and they can't even speculate on the cause unless they are better than well paid... I think not.

So there you have it all that is known and my best guess as to why.

is this the same thing that happened to CC Covers, freecovers, R1DB, and DVD Coverfusion?

I can only speak to two of those directly with first hand knowledge.

R1DB had a physical server failure after years the hardware actually laid down and Jayhawk did not want to invest in a new one.

DVD Coverfusion was threatened with a lawsuit and the owner decided it was time to bail.

From what I recall freecovers owner just abandoned it, no site can survive without active Admin.

CC I don't know about.

Covernet was killed by it's host for taking up too much space I saw the email the owner got from them on it.

Uncovered would have been killed too by same host that cut the legs off EFX in 2013 but they found a host willing to move them over for free as they are not that big and so they let them do it, else they would be gone.

In 2013 the host kicked EFX out cited us being too big as the reason... then gave us a week to relocate.... no where near enough time to move a site that big, we did move and saved half the gallery but they deleted all the resources, was a dark time.

Thanks for writing this message for us Curt, very well explained as you normally do. I always liked this about you. It's sad and pathetic that they would do that, especially with all the time you and Lee spent trying to fix things and hopelessly thinking the host would help. And there's also the fact that some subscribers who had recently paid lost money because of their greed.

Yes, me and Lucan poured years into it but what can you do, some battles you just can't win.

That's so bad that the host wouldn't even allow you to time to find another host and move the data across. I understand it must have been costing them more than what they were making but it's not a good look when they just terminate the hosting without giving you guys the chance to move.

And when they terminate they use the DELETE button it's like you were never there.
