Automatic background removal

Photoshop now has an Automatic Background Removal tool. It isn't perfect, but it does a large part of the work for you.

With your layer selected, open the properties tab. If you do not have it available, go to Window - Properties.

Click on Remove Background. Photoshop will now mask out what it believes is the background for you.

Now you can go ahead and tidy up the mask.

What version of Photoshop is this on? I've updated but still dont have it.

I believe it is available in Photoshop 2020/21

Has to be a layer for the option to show.

If you open a jpg you will need to convert the Background layer to a layer first.

From the menu: Layer > New > Layer from background

Or click on the padlock in the Layers window.

This is really cool technology, I hope they continue to improve on this and make the selections better and better with new updates.

They keep getting better at this. I find that it works pretty good if your background isn't too busy.
