I almost only use the pen tool for everything, but a very soft brush around hairs. I also add a feather to my cutouts to make them blend better.

For me it all depends on the image and what I think will be the quickest/best way to mask. I’ll use a combination of channel masking (how I do it can be found here), pen tool, magic wand (only for really simple things) and sometimes Photoshops remove background.

I have tried those remove background website before and some look interesting, I was actually going to do a tips and tricks post about it with a little trick for full res images - is it worth doing or shall I post it here?
