Kernie's Weekly Cover Update #30: Batman Beyond!
[Click image to view in gallery]

First off, a couple of apologies: work is kicking my butt right now and I haven't been very chatty in the forums. Teaching a new course on Photoshop to 72 teenagers in a hybrid/virtual learning model is an insane amount of time and effort... recording daily 40-minute video tutorials, grading daily assignments, tracking attendance, e-mailing back and forth... it's pretty crazy. Haven't had much time for much else these days. Luckily, I have a stockpile of covers from the summer stored up and ready to upload each week! :D

Second apology: I know Batman Beyond got a Blu-ray upgrade last fall, but it took me a while to revamp them to a level that I felt they deserved. This is actually the third time I've revised the DVD editions of these covers... and I hope the third time is the charm! New 3D title treatment and logo, new custom keyart, revised color palette... basically a whole new template!

Since the series was only released as a "Complete Series" set, I decided to finally do something I've tried to resist doing in the past... make a space-saving complete series cover set as well! I won't do this for every series, only for the ones that get official, dedicated "series sets," and even then I'm not sure I'll always have the time to do it for other shows. The complete series cover set includes Blu-ray covers in 10mm & 15mm spines and DVD covers in 14mm and 33mm spines (to hold all 10 DVD discs)! Separate season set covers are available as well... although technically, you can't buy the individual seasons on Blu-ray at present time.

I also did something I've never had to do for a cover before... draw a character from scratch! I've always been fortunate to find good resources, or have some level of success with upscaling/restoring less-than-ideal images... but I just couldn't find a good enough version of Joker Beyond from Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. So I grabbed a low-res image and completely redrew it in Adobe Illustrator. It doesn't perfectly match the same style as the images of Terry Batman, Bruce Batman, and Tim Robin on the cover, but I think it's good enough that most of you would never have noticed without me telling you! :p

Damn Kernie. The old set was great, but as usual you managed to make them even better. And you are right, nobody would have been able to tell that it was not an official Joker illustration. It looks pretty damn perfect to me. That must have taken you a long time to make!

And please do not apologise for being caught up with work etc. These are unprecedented times that have affected us all in various ways. I am sure I speak on everybody's behalf, when I say that we are just grateful that you still find time to fit us in and supply us with a glorious new cover set every week :)
