You've placed a white layer as top layer on your cover.

How did I miss this one! Outstanding work - I especially like the use of white space.

Great idea for a thread Tim, and thanks for the mention! :D :D :D

Outside of my Comic Book Collection, I didn't make too many "standalone" covers this past year. Here are the few that I was able to put together...

And while I don't see this particular cover getting much use, I had a good laugh while designing it...

Great job to all designers this past year... looking forward to what's to come in 2020! :D :D :D

Following Kernie... looking at anything you do lets me know where the bar is and that there is still lots of room for improvement on my part :D

Thanks for the mention Tim, that Gaslight is a real showstopper, Fidi's Valerian is a flat out stunner, those two alone showcase the massive talent consistently on display here at hires.

First on behalf of the site I would like to thank all our artists for their tireless devotion to this wonderful hobby and for sharing their endless creations with our membership here.

The level of creativity at hires is impressive and there are numerous examples of this posted in this topic already, just scroll up one for example.

For me my most favorite cover is usually the one I'm working on, the ones that are completed usually fall from favor fairly quickly.

There is a number of reasons for this but the most common one is wishing I had done this or that differently, so each new project is me searching for the one that will be my favorite.

I find the design process to be a ongoing evolution, I learn new techniques or improve old ones all the time and as such find myself looking back at previous works and saying wow that could have been a lot better if I had known this then...

That said in 2019 there are a few covers that didn't fair as well as some others did but that I'm more fond of them becasue of the effort vs the result it yielded.

These three are older films and required a lot of time and new techniques for dealing with the quality of the images, so it was rewarding to see them come out as well as they did. Blood & Chocolate featured a lot of new hair work, both it and Jason were also adventures into more advanced title effects, and focus on other finer details as well, so these three sort of sum up a lot of the new things I learned in 2019.

Blood & Chocolate (2007)

Eastern Promises (2007)

Jason X (2001)

I do a fair number of art house and less mainstream titles as I like the challenge of not having a ton of high-res resources to work from all the time, forces you to be more creative with the basics like color, texture, typography etc.

I also find doing more minimal covers to be even more of a challenge in other ways, like space and how it is used becomes painfully obvious when you're not filling every square inch with eye candy lol.

Here are a couple of 2019 covers that fall in that category, I think I found some decent balance on these and they came out fairly pleasing to my eye anyway.

Things To Come (2016)

About Elly (2009)

You've created a great topic, Tim, many artists have designed great covers this year, and many of you have shown that you can design covers at a higher level. In my opinion, the bar has been raised a lot.

Last year, I didn't manage to create many covers, and I don't think I have much to boast about, additionally, looking at the high level of other artists, my covers are poor. I made some comics that I'm not very happy about. My only cover with which I put a lot of work is Rogue one a star wars story and a solo that I haven't finished yet. I hope that this year I will be able to design more covers for equal films than just comics and Star Wars.
Below are some covers, which I think are quite decent.
