I also worry that making contributors wait too long will put them off becoming contributors, and we could end up missing out on some great contributions to the site.

If they're really serious about making HiRes their new place for great cover work then I'm sure they would understand and be willing to wait, if they're not then they most likely will be wanting to grab everything they can.

What sauron said. Also, didn't the rule say that the member had to be active for a certain amount of time before getting promoted to contributor? I can't seem to find it now, so it might be wrong, but if it's not then I believe we shouldn't go against that rule. In the end tho, you're still boss Bazzah so it's really up to you and I can understand if you have a good feeling about someone.

Thanks B! He has been active long enough according to the rule, so I guess it's fine to give him an update. I though the rule said a year or something :hysterical: , don't know where I got that from   .
edit: I don't think it would hurt to extend the rule a little tho, let's say 2-3 months?

Nooo, 3 months is far too long :p Maybe we should give a definitive amount of time (like 6 weeks) rather than saying several weeks. It gives them a date to aim for then :)

I think there should be a new rule that does nothing to change how things are currently and would solve this problem, you may recall I have mentioned this before Baz.

What you do is you provide yourself with a way out, right now once you update some one you are locked in until the site downgrades them which is far too long in my opinion.

Simply adding a new guideline that says "new contributors will be on probation for the first three months and if their activity falls below what we consider acceptable they will be downgraded at the site admins discretion."

Nothing wrong with that and we don't have that many new contributors and we will notice if they stop right after they are upgraded and if they do fall off right away during their first three months as a contributor and we feel upgrading them was a mistake then we have a way to downgrade them and be done with it, problem solved.

This gives us the freedom to upgrade the new folks after a week or two if we want and still have a way to close them down in the next month if they fall off, and also we would then have reason to make them prove their self more should they try for it again in the future.

I agree with that CT. It is a shame it cannot be incorporated into the current system, but I know how all over the place Fubsters code is. But as you say, adding one rule saying that if we feel contributions are not regularly upheld, we withhold the rights to demote a new contributor would definitely help our cause :)

Yes and it's a win-win as it opens the door to be less strict on who we let in or how soon as we have a way to deal with it after the fact if needed, rather than being locked in to a bad call for months.

Yup no history tracking in there as far as when users are added or downgraded so no way to tell who is new and who is not or how many times they have been promoted and demoted either which also kind of sucks lol...

Code: Select all

• You must be an active member making regular contributions over the last several weeks, to apply for contributor status. New contributors will also be monitored for regular uploads. If we feel you are not regularly contributing, after becoming a contributor, we reserve the right to remove your contributor access. This is to prevent members gaining free access to the site, without continuing to contribute.

So with the new rule in place, do we now upgrade highlight? And does this also affect Cyrmor's contribution request?
