The Comic Book Collection by Kernie
Congratulations Kernie, on great updates to your covers and your life! I am sure you will make an excellent Dad. And believe me, you will need time out now and then so I am sure we will still see the odd cover from you. Well I sincerely hope we do anyway. But being a Dad comes first! Enjoy it buddy!

Yes, but if I ever actually get around to it is another matter. It's still on the to-do list.Darksaber wrote:QUOTE (Darksaber @ Jul 6 2017, 05:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Just taken a closer look at the updated covers, excellent work, New TT's New back logo, what looks like a new background and the keyart is just amazing, a really nice update
Thanks for taking a closer look, DS!
Obviously, the keyart is new... I tried to do something that keeps with the look of the original posters, while incorporating a bit more color, webbing, and of course, the villain of each film. Green Goblin and Doc Ock were easy because they were given their own posters, but for Spider-Man 3, all of the marketing focused on Spidey and his black suit "reflection." None of the villains were given a character poster like the previous films had. I did what I could for Venom and New Goblin, but unfortunately couldn't find anything worth using for Sandman, even though I think he's the "main" villain of the film... I guess... who knows... that film's a mess.
I also made a new TT that fixes the issue of the text overlapping the number on the sequels. I hope it's easier to read on both the front and spine now. The back logo is new and specific to the Raimi trilogy (I made a separate one for the Amazing films), the comic background is new, and the overall color palette is brighter and more vibrant. Overall, I think these new ones are a vast improvement.
If only I made these covers right the first time!
It's a fine recipe for 3 great looking covers, I doubt anyone is really please with there first attempt at making anything from scratch, it's all trial and error.
The first Spiderman film was good, the second I thought brilliant, the third a mess, the villains where ok, but a lot of elements in the film where just so wrong for example the bad boy dancing Peter Parker.
Sony rushed out the third film trying to match the success of Spidey2, how wrong they got it, I think the same happened to the 2 Amazing Spidey films, they where rushed, the villain characters where nothing like they could or should have been, the new Goblin was horrible, the actor who played him was a really bad choice. The Rhino was another shipwreck, just terrible.
I'm hoping Spiderman Homecoming will put things back on track again with the characters, though I think it might feel like an Ironman movie, though I might be wrong.
I don't hold much hope for Sony's Venom, if Marvel was making it, it might be done right, but Sony, sorry I have no faith in them, you could say it will be "Carnage"

Here are the updated versions of the not-so-Amazing Spider-Man films. I'm not sure exactly when I will have Homecoming done, as I still need to do Guardians Vol. 2 as well, but I hope to get to it in the next couple of weeks.

And the revised keyart...

As for my opinion of Spider-Man: Homecoming... I really, really liked it. It was certainly the best representation of Peter Parker/Spider-Man on screen (Maguire was too soft and whiney, Garfield was just a stuttering dickhead). Tom Holland may have overdone the squeeky-voice at times, but he was the first actor to truly portray Spidey as a teenager. Michael Keaton's Vulture was surprisingly relatable and much better than the typical Marvel one-off villains. Iron Man had just enough of a presence in the film without overshadowing it and the Ned Leeds sidekick character really impressed me.
My biggest (and really only) concern with this new generation of Spider-Man films is the Sony connection. Spidey has 3 more guaranteed appearances in the MCU (Infinity War, Avengers 4, and Homecoming 2) and I'm worried that Sony is going to pull something stupid after the deal is up. After all the Sony email leaks and last summer's Ghostbusters gender-war in the media, I have little faith or trust in Sony and wouldn't put it past them to pull an underhanded move like "Thanks, Marvel for helping us reboot Spider-Man into a profitable franchise again... see ya!" Of course, there's plenty of time left until that day comes, and I also wouldn't be surprised if Marvel has a trick up their sleeve as well. At this point, Sony is struggling as a company and I could see Disney/Marvel buying back Spidey for a significant sum. I trust that Marvel knows what they're doing before getting into business with Sony and Amy Pascal.
Despite the concern over where Spidey goes in the future, I thoroughly enjoyed Homecoming and hope for the best for his place in future MCU films.
