Feathering? It's mostly just playing with the layer masks, finding out where things fit together and being strategic about what blends where. Generally, you would smoothly blend the layer and then strategically go back and unmask pieces, like Laurence Olivier's hat on the right, for instance.

This one's done. [attachment=32716:Bunny.gif]

I'm still figuring out how to colorize well, but the one tip I've found so far is to make sure you treat it as only one step in the larger design process.

Thanks again for the encouragement, everyone! And thanks to Paris especially for his tips. This probably would have sat unfinished on the hard drive otherwise. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Just one thin Tim. Sorry for being a newb. How did you create what you called the perspective image? Did you just tilt the initial image, and just by strechting and shrinking? I'm gonna keep that animated gif!! lol.
I'm gonna commit a heresy here and say I'm not a great Hitchcock fan. I love to death Shadow of a doubt(my favorite) and Psycho but I admire him more than I like him(except those 2).
But Rebecca is a tour de force.

Did you just tilt the initial image, and just by strechting and shrinking?Yes sir. You could go to View > New Guide to add a few straight lines to your canvas for reference, and then Edit > Transform > Distort. (Edit > Transform > Perspective also works and streamlines things a little bit, but that doesn't give you as much control.)alienmem wrote:QUOTE (alienmem @ Dec 5 2015, 02:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I'm gonna commit a heresy here and say I'm not a great Hitchcock fan. North By Northwest, Rear Window, and To Catch a Thief are my favorites. As you said, even when there's a film of his you don't like, there's usually plenty to admire.
Agreed Tim. May I be so bold to suggest something that in my opinion would make the cover even classier...maybe perfect(if perfection exists outise of Scarlett johansson..lol).
In the spine, I think if you lost the middle image of Joan Fontaine and just made it a clean spine without that It would be tip of the top. Don't know if anyone else agrees
I know you spent time coloring that little image but I think without it it would look tip top perfect.
