don't worry kernie !! if one designer can do this cover is you....you're gonna find a way to make it for sure....

may be the thing is you start this cover from the one you made for the first avengers.... what if you start from scratch to bild something totally different like xshoty do for his poster....
that's just my point of view....

in any case i do believe you will create another piece of anthology

don't give up and may the 4th be whit you.....

Thanks for the pep talk, but I think my difficulty with this cover is just reinforcing the fact that I've lost my touch for this sort of thing. I was silly for trying to get back into this after such a long absence. New and more talented artists came along and I'm feeling like an old hack with zero creativity left. I should probably just stick to the comic collection template.

Crushem, I understand your suggestion of starting over, but I don't know if I have it in me to try a third format.

I'm sorry for the rant, I'm just extremely frustrated, depressed, and out of ideas on this stupid design. I thought I could do something to match my previous Avengers cover, but I think I was foolish to try.

come on kernie !! for sure you have it on you.....you are the best i ever seen here and on any other site......
for the creativity i think you juste have to look over the net to find something....me if i have you skill and talent i will made something reflecting the marvel old comic spirits...like picture 1.... or may be something like picture number 2....
in life i create music and song...i spend so many night to find inspiration....and everytime for me the best way to find it is to listen some old stuff....

hope you will find a way to build another extraordinary cover

It's look awesome, I wouldn't give up now, we all get 'creative blocks' - The best thing to do is to stop working on the cover for a couple of days or even a week and then come back to it with fresh eyes and see what happens from there :)

I agree with sauron, it'll happen, but maybe it'll take a bit longer than you want it to, maybe it'll suddenly come quick, either way I am confident you will get the result you are happy with, if it's this design you have now or you find another direction, we can wait, it's cool :)

Not that this matters but I have cover depression, some people call it creative block, pretty much 99% of the time, and that's when I'm not even working on something cause I can't get an idea of what movie to do let alone some kind of design, and so many times I have an idea but can't make it and end up way off what is in my mind....But you have great skills, ideas and talent to bring it all together, you've had a bit of a break, now you're back, don't be to hard on yourself, the idea you want might even strike at 2AM in the morning while you're sleeping, creative juices can have a funny way of flowing, and remember, The Force is Strong in This One. (the one being you not actually the cover, even though I think it's looking SWEET and wish I had done it!)
It's all uphill til you get to the top

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. I apologize for my mood yesterday. It's frustrating to work on something for so long and still struggle to see it produce something worthwhile. I'll take a bit of a break from this design and hope that some sort of creativity is sparked.

Crushem... I would love to do something like the first cover you posted, but finding resources that would actually work is the problem. Age of Ultron has been very sparse in terms of good quality imagery, far less than what was available for the first Avengers. Even the official poster art leaves a lot to be desired in comparison to the first film (and I didn't love the first film's poster either).

I don't hate the design that I've created, but it is also severely lacking the "wow" factor and action that I was hoping to achieve. In my opinion, xshoty's poster art is succeeding in that "wow" factor in ways that mine has not been able to, and I must admit that seeing his work only reminded me of how much my own design was failing.

I'll put this aside for a few days and try to come back to later, or simply start from scratch all over again.

I personally think you are being far too hard on yourself. While I disagree with you about this design not having the wow factor, I cannot argue that you believe it isn't up to your own personal standards. I think it is. But if you are not happy with it yourself, then you are not going to achieve anything forcing yourself to achieve that wow factor you are looking for. My advice would be to move on to another cover and come back to this in a few weeks. You will probably see straight away what you are not liking about it.

Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks Bazz! I know this design isn't terrible, but it also isn't where I'd like it to be and I'm struggling to find a direction that excites me while still keeping in line with the first cover from a few years ago.

This is probably going to backfire on me, but if folks could be so kind as to point out ways in which this design is working and how it isn't, it might help guide me in a direction that is more personally satisfying... or it might drive me crazy. Let's see! :D :D :D
