Should Ichy007 be promoted to contributor? Please remember this is a vote for his cover/label contributions only :)

I agree. I see no reason not to promote him at this time :)

His work is pedestrian and lacks a knowledge of design principles. He also admits to not knowing Photoshop or actual design software and apparently does all his work in Mac's Pages program, which I don't think is the best practice for designing quality work. However, if his work is truly his own and not "Frankensteined" together from spare parts of other custom covers (which I have some doubts), I see no reason to deny Contributor Status based on the Site Rules.

On a personal note, his behavior in the forums in extremely off-putting. Excessive threads. Rambling posts (but I'm in a glass house on this one). Impatience towards receiving responses to posts and towards being granted contributor status. His "whatever" attitude towards ripping off the work of other designers (intentional or not). Back-handed compliments to other members. Unfortunately, his attitude and conduct in the forums rubs me the wrong way and he seems to be an arrogant and condescending fellow who has no intentions of using this site to become a better artist.

While I cannot cast a "No" vote in this thread based on the Site Rules, I have some concern about this promotion and have decided not to vote "Yes" either.

I apologize for not keeping my post strictly on the merits of his designs, but I wanted to address my opinion. Frankly, I worry how he will behave when he has full access. In my opinion, he has not gotten off on the right foot.

I could not agree more with Kernie's comments. This guys behaviour/posts seem very provocative. I've a feeling he may not be here very long - time will tell whether he settles down or just urinates everyone off. He's definitely not made a great first impression.

Thank you for sharing my sentiments, venome. I was worried that it was only me and that I was attacking the poor guy unnecessarily.

I totally agree with Kernie and Venome. I honestly can't vote yes for all the reasons mentioned.

I agree with what you have said as well. I do think his work is all his own, as he has been very honest and open with me about all of his covers via email over the last few weeks. I hope that he will either settle down with his elaborate posting (not that there is anything wrong with it) and eventually settle in once he gets to know how other people are on the site. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, but holds very passionate opinions which he feels the need to express in detail. Time will tell I guess. But in the mean time, I am voting yes as a contributor as I believe it is his own work and it is suitable for the site.

Just for the record I'm with Kernie.. This guy is a loose cannon and has no concept of this hobby. He's extremely aggravating and I'm not sure what he really has to offer except patchwork covers with his own little weird credits on the back...ugg

.

*edit*

and one more thing, aren't we lowering HRC's standards by accepting this type of cover?

I'm afraid I too agree with the comments made thus far, the big possible negative here is free for all access to others work to be done with as desired.

I know of at least two who have gained access here that had that same devil may care attitude toward others work, who then took items from here chopped them up and then posted them to other sites where that type of thing is standard operating procedure.

I'm actually less concerned with what he's doing design wise in relation to the 'is that enough merit' to warrant promotion vs IMO anyway, the door that we will be opening to him via this promotion to have access to everything for which he clearly has made plain on a number of occasions now, that he has little to no respect for.

Food for thought :)
