I hope I was not one of the judges that let you down.

I don't think anyone had a problem with your scores or comments. :) And, even the judges with blank score cards led me to believe they were careful in their scoring.

While we are on the subject of judges, would it work better if there were less?

Even more people would get left out. :( Featuring fewer judges would be okay with me. At one point, the plan was to have only Kernie, BPMFord, Kylumi, and the popular poll. Looking at the numbers, that still seems to result in the same Top 3.*

To clarify my point, I wasn't suggesting that this year's outcomes were not deserved or valid, or that you should disqualify any judges or adjust the points from this year's competition.

I know, it just seemed worthy of mention. :) A couple of designers felt those scores should not have counted, so it's mildly comforting that the results are the same either way. :)

Setting a rule of "all covers must be ranked and commented AND submitted by the deadline" from the outset should make it clear from the beginning that any judges not upholding their responsibilities will have his/her scorecard withdrawn.

It's not the rule so much as the slippery implementation. From the opening post to the final judging email, the song was pretty similar...
"12 Noon (EST) on Monday, April 7"
"include comments for ALL covers"
"at least one full sentence, in English"

My point in the "cloud of accusations and unhappiness" comment was that the second a score is eliminated, the competition would be marked by some as being rigged.

On a late design, I can say, "The judges have already received the covers," which is pretty concrete.

But, if I ask for a full sentence in English for all covers, do single-word comments count? Sentence fragments? Unreadable translations? Does one blank comment void the card? (Those are answerable questions, but that doesn't mean anyone would like the answers. :D )

Those are just some explanations, not defenses. It's far from a perfect setup, so conversation and suggestions are important.

Also... fronts-only... that's something people don't want to see repeated, right?

I too think less judges, as in one per site plus the special judges should be sufficient to determine a winner and as Kernie said that would make it far easier for each site to select a more competent judge to represent them.

:)

I think it's a great idea!

Of course I speak only for myself, but since the majority of empty cards have put my front in last place :bandance: .... I really like to know the reasons (as I think the other artists, the first and the last both )

And who wrote the single comment of apologize for not to able to write to any judgment, I find it a little unacceptable...
Is a choice to be judges of the BR, not an obligation.

Same for those who have left the score cards blank.

I think the BR is a marvelous event!!! It should not be ruined by laziness :arms:

I would vote for full covers ;) although Easy's 'Spine' Contest does peak one's interest a bit :laughin:

Full covers.

I congratulate all the designers great works. Thank you for the sleepless nights and headaches he, he...

In my opinion, this year was suspended crossbar very highly because the topics very difficult. Big applause for the entire composition of the podium.

:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I also would rather to evaluate the whole cover, not just the fronts.

Shame and disgrace to the judges, who sent a clean card. I hope that these people will be treated accordingly ...

Thank you Tim for great fun!

I also thought the front only idea worked really well, it was alot tougher than doing a whole cover due to each individual artist
had to be more creative to make that image pop. However when i first seen what the contest was going to be i couldn't help but
think that it would have probably even more interesting if it was a case of designing a poster instead at 3000 x 2000 pixels.

Results could have more interesting when a coversite like hires could have incorporated it into another comp with option of just using the BR entry posterarts instead.

I agree with all above, but have to wonder after reading the judges scores, did they know who they were judging? I'm curious about this.

May only suggestion would be now that the 4th year is done, perhaps limit the judging to previous winners, and tie breaker judgement by Bunny.

No. The Judges had no knowledge of who made what cover. Like everyone else we knew who were competing, but for me personally it was not something I spent energy on. As I mentioned previously, I tried to be fair and square to all, and made certain to add a comment on every entry.
