Specular Eye Highlights

I experimented with adding specular highlights to character's eyes for my John Carter cover to liven up the black eyes and found that it really makes the eyes pop. The effect is best seen here on samppa and I's Inglourious Basterds cover. You can amplify existing highlights or make you own and vary the shapes and sizes. :)

Experiment with adding different shapes or amount of highlights for more visual interest. :)

Thanks, guys! This was one of those tips that really changed my game along with coloring and drawing hair strands. I hope to make more tips and tricks tutorials. :)

I'll bite, but I don't see thr tutorial, and can't find specular highlights, anywhere in PS. Please inform my helplessness....

No worries, mate. :) Specular highlights are bright reflections in the eye that can be added by the designer by using the brush or pen tool. This is not a function in Photoshop; it is something that is drawn in. :)

Ok. so how do you use a brush or a pen tool on an eye? do you turn the oppacity way down..like 1%. I undersatnd the concept. I just don't know how to put what you say in practice.

Anyone care to exemplify please? the eyes really do look better
