Looks much better without the gradients. Still feel that the front needs more though, don't think the "smurf happens" works, seems like it's just there to fill the gap.
Just made this very crude mock up of something you may be able to do - the two images used are available on movie poster db. Obviously yours would look better as you have all the layers to mess about with.

Mustn't get ready tomorrow, i would think about it, what i could do here...
Obviously if you were to go the route I mocked up, you wouldn't have two smurfettes.
