Yeah, I've used (among others) a Topaz filter. Personally I don't think the veins are a problem, but for this update they're mostly hidden anyway
I've moved things a little and made the frame wider. Also added the TT. Still need to blend everything in, highlight the characters and fill the empty space on the bottom left and around the "dog" behind Carter.

Felipe: I expected to get a suggestion like that sooner or later
Personally I think the white works, and after I've added the last characters and elements, even more white space will be covered. I can try a different outer color/texture though to see if that works, but I don't think a red/brown will do the trick as I fear it will pull to much attention away from the composition.
