I'm trying to make this tutorial, i have done it before but now i cant get past the first bit

what happens is i use the pen tool and it doesnt curve like the first pic does anyone know why?

You need to change cursor. Once you have made your straight line, under the list of pen tools, there is what looks like an arrow. Use this to add anchor points. Once the anchor points have been added, return to the vector selection tool (cursor above) to adjust your curve.

What is it called under the pen tool menu part?, i used to be able 2 do it and it would jst let me curve it straight away but now it jst moves the straight line vertical

Use the 'convert point tool' to add you curves, then the 'direct selection tool' to adjust those points.

When i do it, it doesn't work it just moves the straight line

Are you using the direct selection tool, or the other one?

OK sauron I've just had a go at this myself.

When it says click to add a point in the middle of the straight line, I just kept the mouse button pressed and then shaped the line as I wanted it to look and everything worked out peachy. 8824.gif

sauron trying doing it keeping the mouse button pressed, see if that helps.
