Contamination is done with Pyrrhotite and it is an unusual iron sulfide mineral with a variable iron content.
With time, that mineral in contact with humidity inflates and it cracks the concrete. So, we get cracks that let water go into it and deteriorates the stability of the house.
We do have insurance to cover part of the repairs.... but it's a constant fight with them.
We are presently in court in a class action as we are now up to 1200 victims. I took action against the contractor who build the house.... including the cement plan, the quarry that distributed the contaminated rock and the engineer firm that concluded that this rock was OK to be put in the cement mix. The process has been going on for the last 3 years and should be finished by the end of June. We are crossing our fingers...

That is the biggest point.... The whole basement was finished with 1 bedroom, complete bathroom, an office (Computer room) and a home cinema. The battle in court is to cover those appartments that are not covered with the insurance.
