And here I was thinking I was late when I sent in the scorecard yesterday.. oywe Arky, late as always.. :grinod:
I've been judging quite a few competitions in my days, and I must say this was the worst so far - and by that I mean for me, personally. Just to pin down the points to each and every cover can easily be described as a nightmare - such amazing creativity and craftsmanship in 21 totally unique covers?! And then, when you think you have your points all nailed, you take another look at a few of the covers and the table flips again. Looking back at the days I've had the judging kit at hand (about a week?) I have probably switched order of the points at least daily. And to top it off, you have to try and formulate some sort of feedback... woha. :)

I say again, never seen so many wickid covers come out of one competition - hope you all take the time to admire and enjoy the covers in their full glory once they're unleashed!

Just want to say that I'm happy not sitting in your seat this year. Thanks to you and all the other judges. I'm looking forward to read you guys comments. I will for sure get all these great entries down on my HD as soon as possible.

I compete in two battle royals back to back and the comments pretty rough, so i made it a point to not say anything negative and if it ever comes across that way, sorry in advanced.

I'm happy to be on this end this year but nervous as well, it's tough to judge the best cover talent around when i'm not nearly as good, but it was fun, hat's off to all you hard working guys and gals.

I found it difficult enough just picking out my favourite from the previews when I voted on the site. I'd see a cover and think 'oh, it's definitely this one', and then my eye would catch another, and another...

The worst (and simultaneously best) part was that there are so many different styles, so it was very hard to weigh two up directly against each other. Usually I use my gut instinct to guide my choice, but here I had to start looking really closely at all the technical elements just to try to separate them.

Thank goodness I didn't have to rank each one individually!

Agreed... I had to start looking for technical flaws in order to even begin ranking them... which demonstrates that taking the extra time to proofread your text for typos and grammatical errors can mean a world of difference in such a close competition.

However, it became difficult when some flawed covers were more imaginative than the flawless ones. In those cases, despites my best efforts to be objective, some subjectivity was also required.

Agreed. I remember from judging last year how difficult it can be! :) And yes, subjective notions were also required. ;)

Also for me, it was very hard to compare two perfect covers (one for each movie)... because they each had a different goal to reach.

I know just from looking at the previews it was really hard, appreciate you guys taking on the judging, pretty tough gig for you, during and after, so kudos, and thanks.
